I'm playing this great game but I have a big problem:

S

P

O

I

L

E

R

I have just killed the blade and the claws brothers and retrieved the
Ankaran Sarcophagus.
As I kill them a cutscene showing my ventrue vampire putting the sarcophagus
on a truck begins. At the end of the cutscene a level loading begins but it
never ends.
The game crashes (without any error) befonre ending the loading sequence and
sends me to Windows desktop.
I have installed the patch 1.2 but noghing has changed. The game still
crashes.
What can I do?

Thanks.

Bloodlines appears to leak megabytes of memory every time you zone from
one area to another: how big is your swap file? After a couple of hours
I found it was usually eating up 1.5+ gigabytes of memory, so if you
don't have at least 512MB of RAM and 1GB of swap file, that could
easily cause crashes.

The following can be found on Activision's official site:

We are still looking into this issue at the current time, but the following
should get you past the issue.

This fix involves using some console commands. Be careful to enter the
console commands exactly as
they appear, capitalization is important.

To enable the console for the game:
1) Right-click on the shortcut you use the launch the game
2) Select properties
3) Make sure you are on the shortcut tab
4) At the end of the target line add -console, add this outside of the
quotes
5) The finished line should look like this if you have the game installed to
the default directory
"C:\Program Files\Activision\Vampire - Bloodlines\vampire.exe" -
console
6) Hit ok, make sure you launch the game using this shortcut

Once you have enabled the console load the saved game from this level
and do the following
1) Get to the boat and approach it, do not get into the boat, but get as
close
as you can
2) Open the console using the tilde "~" key
3) Type the following commands in:
If you saved Johansen:
SaveJohansen()

Then to level transition if you're anybody but a Nosferatu:
changelevel2 la_hub_1 taxi_landmark

And if you're a Nosferatu, instead use:
changelevel2 la_hub_1 sewer_map_landmark

4) If you get to the next level and you do not have any items in your
inventory reload your previous save
(make sure you have a discreet save and are not just using the autosave)
and try it again, but stand
closer to the boat.

The OP doesn't appear to be at that level, though. In any case, he should
start by applying the patch if he hasn't already, which should include the
Johansen fix.

The patch doesnt fix it, at least it doesnt with my game. I've been playing
it today, and I reached that point, jump into the boat, and the game start
load, and CTD. I loaded it up again 4 times and tried, same result CTD.

Has anyone successfully completed BLOODLINES? Or is that CTD glitch a
universal phenomenan?

If it's not universal, if (worse) it's unique to you, then you have to
look at your personal hardware/drivers environment.

Did you try reloading an earlier saved game and playing through to that
point again? Maybe that one save game is corrupted.

Boat?
Which boat?
I'm going away from Giovanni's Mansion with the sarcophagus...
There is no boat here, only a truck.
And when I escape from the mansion driving the truck a loading sequence
begins.
But it never ends, the game crashes before the new level is completely
loaded...
:(

Bye!

It's not universal, but it is very common: it happened to me, but the
patch fixed it.

You have to start from a save game _before_ you entered the Leopold
mission, since the damage is apparently done well before the crash
occurs. Did you do that?

The boat is later, when you have to rescue someone to help you open the
sacrophagus.
I never had any trouble at the Giovanni Mansion though. I had to go on a
rampage slaughter there because I couldnt do the seduce part, but thats all
:p

Think its quite a universal thing. Imho its very bad indeed. Why buy a game
you isnt able to complete, although you can do the console thing explained
on the activision forums to bypass it, but how many of the people who
actually bought the game will aquire that information?

My hardware is top notch and doesnt have problems with anything else of
games or progs. Drivers are all up to date as well, and I havent had any
ctd's or problems with bloodlines before this point in the game.

Yes, and it still CTD.

No I used the console to fix it, quick and easy.

I completed Bloodlines with zero problems. No crashes or lockups. I played
using the 1.2 patch.

It's a RPG, so maybe I just didn't do something in the game that others
have?

Who knows...

I ran into a weird glitch as one of my characters that another character
didn't experience in the same place: as my Malkavian was running out of
the sabbat warehouse, the sabbat werewolf guys never appeared to attack
him, only the usual goons. He could open the final door, but couldn't
exit. So he kept dying...

Yeah. Ten times.
With marginal hardware and outdated drivers

I think, like much else in the computer industry, a lot of it is
luck-of-the-draw,
having more to do with your particular hardware/software combo than anything
else.

The onlty times Bloodlines has crashed on me, I suspect that I accidently
hit the Windows key when I meant to hit the control key.

My problems have been typical of those one would encounter using an
underpowered machine -
slow load times, sound stuttering, low FPS, etc..

And I have *not* installed any of the patches.
