I was reading how to do something and the book rested on
the keyboard. I saw a message come up and it said I
activated something. Now, when I try and do something and
go to hit one thing in a file, it highlights everything.
I go to start, accessories and hit system restore and the
original "all programs" page doesn't go away. I hit the x
in the right hand corner and it goes away. When I try to
use system restore, it won't work. What did I activate
and how do I get rid of it? I restarted the computer but
that didn't help.

Open the control panel and look at the keyboard properties,
to see what key has been remapped, also look at the device
manager. Check all programs/accessories/ accessibility to
see if you activated some selection tool. Also check mouse
properties.

BTW, something can be anything, messages should be read.
The quality of an answer often depends on the quality of the
question.
