Problem: PC had malware virus (a bad one --- seemed to ate up XP Pro Edition). Tried several things, nothing worked. So pulled the Hard Drive (IDE) on this older PC with a gigabyte MB. Anyway slaved the harddrive to a working PC, read and saved some files off the infected harddrive. Then decided it needed to be formatted. Did full format from good PC running XP Home Edition.
With HD formatted and reinstalled on the PC under repair, I get "BOOT FROM CD: DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT DISK"
AND sometimes the BIOS Info Screen will stop for a long time (like two minutes) , then it will continue to the second screen which has the listing of the disk order: Drive A Floppy, Drive B None, Pri master Disk: LBA, ATA 100,10005MB, Pri. Slave: Disk: None, Sec. Master Disk: CDROM ATA 33
Sec. Slave DISK: None etc etc,
Then at the bottom ... "Verifying DMI Pool Data ... Update Success
Boot from CD:
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"
OK, I insert XP disk.... and hit enter....
Error msg = "Boot from CD : "
I have read all the posts about this error messgae, but nothing seems to address the problem. If I insert any CD in the CD drive (tried several disks and even changed the CD drive (thinking it may be bad)
I tried changing the drive order in the AWARD BIOS, (but no matter what order I set things up - nothing changes and I still get the "Boot from CD" msg which is follwed by the line "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"
Listen... I even formatted another Hard Drive, gave it a full partition and set it active and the same message comes up and that HD can't see or run take info from the XP Disk either!! What the ????
I changed the RAM with known good memory, I changed the CMOS battery with a new battery, played with setting the BIOS differently, and yet there is no way to get XP to load on to the Hard Drives i have tried ...?? WHAT is going on? COULD IT BE THE POWER SUPPLY? I don't have another one handy to try.
But am going to the shop and have it tested Monday... Any ideas?
Yes this an old system, was working fine until XP got attacked by phoney Virus Protection Malware virus last week.
