Yeah!

Has anyone noticed that when you go to a friend's house and check out their computer and cringe at their onboard graphics or FX5200 they'll defend it as if their computer is the bomb?

People don't know the difference since they've never seen anything better. Going from onboard graphics to a 64 bit 5200 is a step up and Nvidia feeds off these people.

i was joking, and being sarcastic

yes, ATI is no better at times with cards released under the names of 9600se or 9800se. VERY misleading considering they give less performance than cards that have lower model numbers. personaly the whole battle between teh two companies is disgusting at times, and i have stopped following things as much as i used to because there is so much marketing/deceit now

lol give it up man just wait and see. You want hype. I know things about the Doom 3 engine that really blow your mind. Its faster then quake 3, is it really? Take off normal maps and dynamic lighting out of the doom 3 from it the leaked alpa then take a q3 map and import it in, test the two out. Interesting results.

hahaha that's like all my friends.

I have a Pentium 4 2.5! ermmm there is no 2.5.. YA THERE IS I BOUGHT IT AT FUTURE SHOP!
(find me a intel boxed cpu with 2.5 on it, i'll give u my entire system)

Look at the new video card i got this Ti4200 is la best ever
(is the place you are from 3 years behind in technology, or do u live in saskatchewan?)

i got a geforce thingy!!
(ya that's a great way to show off, but that's not gonna help me solve ur problem)

ATi? they make graphics cards?
(yes they do, just like Casio makes calculator)

where is my video card, my monitor is plugged into the place with alot of plugs (mobo)
(YOU DONT HAVE ONE)

I got a radeon 9800pro! i bought it at futureshop for 600$ is it good?
(well its really smart to $600 on something if u dont know if its good or not dont u think? 😉 )

Dell makes really good computer!
(no they don't.)

Dell computer rocks!
(Oh My God.....)

future shop sell great computers
(and Bill Gates is generous person that wants all software companies to coexist with their products)

i got a FX5200 at future shop for so cheap! i bet it owns your Radeon!
(Again, do u except something that cost 125$ to kill my Radeon 9600pro?)
the guy at futureshop said the FX5600 i bought is just as good as your Radeon 9600pro!
(if the sales people at futureshop know what they're doing, then there'd be alot less wars going on)
my FX5200 has 128mb of ram, its much better than your Ti4200
( we'll prove that by benchmarking ok?)
my FX5600XT has 256mb of ram! it'll kill ur Radeon 9600pro
(wanna benchmark?)
9600SE means super edition rgiht?
(it could also possibly mean shiity edition?)
Intel extreme graphic is pretty great eh?
(that's why its free?)

how come ur comp is so much faster than mine? i got a GeForce MX thingy! i got a geforce too!
(well my GeForce is 3 generations ahead of you, do u fight as well as ur grandpa?)

drivers? the cd thingy? you're suppose to install that?
(there is a reason what installation manuals exist)

i have 100gb of ram (hdd)
(go find me a mobo that can put in 100 sticks of ram)

mine is a pentium
(yes, so is 50 million other computers)

AMD 64? is that like a celeron?
(oh, so u know what a celeron is? then go use google and learn the new thing ur suppose to learn today)

i took computer lessons for half a year, i can use word now!
(so could i when i was 6)

OMG you can open the computer case?

ahhh what are u doing to my computer? the screen is black and white! it crashed! restart it (DOS)
hey how come u have a wireless network but u can't move ur modem around
alienware makes the fastest computers on earth
Mac are the fastest thing around
Mac are the real shitznit
Linux? is that some operating system game?
how come my computer is making funny noises?
where in Windows XP do u get porn from?

these are just many things i've heard from various idiots and friends

Well the engine wasn't fully rewitten from the start. It still has very similiar limitations to what the Q3 engine has. those limitation mainly due to its structurly use of a BSP tree, limiting geomtry types and data varainces. This goes with Unreal as well they have the same limitation as does the Half life 2 engine.

The Cry engine, Stalker, and mine are totally different. We use something dubbed "polygon soup" there is no real organization limitation to our geometry. Giving us more flexibility. Every engine's limitation is the hardware no way around it. But by using a BSP tree that is a true killer. Even Carmack said its outdated, but why is he still using it?

this is appalling to say the least. im suprised ATI would let something so far from reference to be actually released!!!!
Yep, totally ridiculous!

The sad thing is that Hercules left because ATI wouldn't allow them to mess around with the design enough so that they could corner the high-high-end market, yet they allow Sapphire to do this? I guess if you sell enough chips and make alot of their BBA boards, ATI will give you a little more flexibility to screw things up.

I expected this from PowerCrapper and Gag-n-puke, but when I first heard about this from the InQ, I thought now Sapphire has gone over the edge from just cheap memory modules.

I did hear that the new version of ATI TrayTools has a good card spec finder with memory bitwidth etc. I've been to busy to test it, I'll try it when I get home (leaving in 5, so it'll be a while.)

So those $200 Pro cards from a few months ago (they're at about $210 now) were 128bit versions?
No, those were 256bit. The 128 bit ones came out at about $180 a few weeks ago.

ABIT IS7, P4 2.6C, 512MB Corsair TwinX PC3200LL, Radeon 9800 Pro, Santa Cruz, TruePower 430watt

Yup I agree Grape. This was a PowerColor thing to do. Like a 9800 Pro EZ version. I am dissapointed with Saphire for this move.

Although I am counting on you to find me some benchies on the 128 bit ones.
I'd expect it to be below the 9800 and 9700 pro, but above a 9600XT or 9700. Got me curious. If it is barely above the R9800se, that would really blow.

yes most, until a few months ago , now i imagine that theres quite a few 128 bit cards floaitng around

I should tell people that I did buy one of these when newegg had them listed as 256-bit. I denied delivery and got my money back, but I was a little angry.

Most 9800SE's have a 256-bit bus, but only 4 pipes. So I don't know which would perform better. It'd probably vary from game to game.

Actually expect it to bench higher.

Most SEs are 4pipes with faster memory.

Whereas the Sapphire R9800nonoprobro is an 8pipe card with poor memory. It will still get hampered at high res and high AA/AF, but it should outperform in most situations. Of course it's still freakin' brutal.

Surprisingly I haven;t seen a review yet. But it's not something that peaks my interest right now. But if I do I'll post it for interest sake. I have a feeling it will perform much better than the R9800SE/R9600XT at lower resolution, and then tapper down towards those two cards as the resolution increases. But I doubt it would dip below those two cards.

It's in part the ATI's fault.

They should have clause in their contract for these issues. They should ask card manufacturer to use brand name wisely. They should say : you can't call use "Radeon 9800 PRO" for a card if it doesn't have 256bit memory bandwidth, 380MHz core speed, 680MHz DDR RAM speed and 128Megs of ram.

This would STOP these SCAMS.

I actually posted a while ago about the opportunity to have a comparison table on GPU BOX. It would read like this :

THIS GPU : 325MHz-CORE/580MHz-RAM/128bit
9800 SE : 325MHz-CORE/580MHz-RAM/256bit
9800 PRO : 380MHz-CORE/680MHz-RAM/256bit
9800 XT : 412MHz-CORE/730MHz-RAM/256bit

Potential buyer's would know how the card compare to "official ATI specs.". This would not remove the right for card makers to build out-of-specs products. This would at least be clear on the products BOX.

Well as long as the seller is posting the correct details then no wrong doing has been done. But if the OEM hasnt then that lawsuit material. Anywho, the usesage of 9800pro and getting the well known 9800se instead is a marketing trick that they damn well know and should be punished.

OEMs can really do what they want with the card just as long as they advertise it right. This is why I stick with BBA.
