Question Brand new monitor has possible defect, wonder if it is fixable or not so I can return it?

Ok, so I just bought a new Acer monitor,

and it had tape all around the front sides of the monitor, when the screen color changes to black or darkish color when powered on there is some reddish color left behind, is the monitor done for or is there some sort of fix for this?
Redness does not appear on light colors from what i can tell

That is a faulty panel. It needs to be returned under warranty. There is no fix for that that I can think of or are aware of. That is simply a bad panel IMO. I've bought tens of dozens of monitors over the years, probably more than that actually, and I've never seen one do that and it could be an adjustment, so look into that first, but I seriously doubt it.

Even right out of the box, the calibration should be close enough that you would not ever see something like that unless there was an actual problem.
