install of XP goes smoothly, until it trys to boot for the first time, and well, anytime after that. I keep landing at a BSOD with the error UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_DRIVE.
I had faced this problem earlier, and got around it, only to get more errors, an after some research, all signs pointed at the motherboard. Well, after RMAing the motherboard, and hooking up the new one. I recieve the error time after time.
SEtup is
1.7 p4 based Celeron
Gigabyte GA-8VM533(-P)
20 gig Western Digital IDE HD
256 mb of PC-2700
Sony DVD-ROM

in the first mobo to give me this error, i already tried switching out hardrives and RAM, only thing i didn't try was another processor. Same goes for the OS Disk and CD-rom/dvd-rom.

All gear is fresh and new. Anyone got any advice?

No other HD, and it's a brand new HD, and i even tested another HD from another computer that was running XP just fine on it. But no luck on this one.

that other hard drive you tested, did it have an install of xp on it already that you tried to boot from or did you format and install that one too?

I reformatted and reinstalled the OS. BSOD. Took it out, put it back in the other computer, reformatted again, reinstall Os, worked fine.

Some more info, the darn thing won't even boot into safe mode. I have used two different copies of XP on it (home and Pro), and a scandisk has been completed with no luck. And no changes to BIO's were made either.

Another update, pulled the harddrive out this morning, slapped into one of my other computer, reformatted, reinstalled OS (XP Pro). And........it boots fine, no errors, no probs. It only gives me error on this POS. I have gone bonkers trying to figure it out.

Does the computer have speach post reporter ? Does the voice say memory failed test ?

Plug a speaker into the SPK-OUT jack and listen to the system boot.

The hardware you have looks good accept the 256MB stick it could be bad.

Look dude that is why I asked him to plug a speaker in and listen to the POST VOICE BIOS memory can fail memory test and still boot all the way to the desktop and even function. Because I know something about computers and you dont!! Dont get involved in something unless you know what in hell your talking about.

your an idiot, if the memory fails 99.999999% of the time ITS NOT GOING TO BOOT. your a bigger moron than i thought if you really think the bios checks ram that thoroughly.

Dude are you a computer Tech are you an Engineer is all your experience with your own computer ?

Computers report memory fail on the post speech reporter all the damn time. I have seen hundreds of computers report a memory fail at post. They still boot and still will install the OS it depends on many things including jumpers set wrong on the motherboard failing the memory as over clocked but it will still function.

It really annoys me that morons like your self with a grade five education try to talk down to a person that has more awards grades expearinance and diplomas then you have colours of nail polish!!

Look dude your obviously a clueless fucck so just shut your pie hole before your brains dribble out your mouth. It is not my fault you were born stupid so live with it.
