[SOLVED] BSOD & Game crashes and I have no clue why

I am posting this on behalf of my friend, who isn't very tech savvy, but I've tried helping her myself.

The last few weeks, her computer either blue screens, or the game crashes whenever she tries to play games. Certain games work, others do not.

So far, we know that Overwatch works fine, but games like Dead By Daylight and RUST do not.

Here is an example of Dead By Daylight crashing:

Sometimes it goes further, sometimes she can get into a game, but inevitably it will crash.

Sometimes she will get a BSOD with "SYSTEM_PTE_MISUSE".

She's tried installing a new motherboard, and new RAM, and re-installing Windows and we get the same problems. So we don't think it's the RAM or the Motherboard or even drivers.

So we figured it could be the graphics card, right? So I told her to plug her monitor into the motherboard so it uses onboard graphics instead, but we get the same crash you see above.

Here is a list of everything we've tried:

• New motherboard
• New RAM
• Switching monitor to onboard graphics in case it was the GPU
• Re-installing windows

Does anyone have any idea where to go from here?

that creates a file in c windows/minidump after the next BSOD

copy that file to documents
upload the copy from documents to a file sharing web site, and share the link in your thread so we can help fix the problem

SYSTEM_PTE_MISUSE seems to tie into BIOS settings. Have you got the latest BIOS on motherboard?

there are 2 other potential fixes here - https://www.minitool.com/news/system-pte-misuse.html , don't follow do the 3rd one until you tell me what board they have, as many new boards have easier ways than downloading a file onto USB

Okay she can't do anything with the DMP file because apparently she doesn't have any permissions (even though it's her home computer and she owns it). She can't upload it or zip it because it says "File not found or no read permissions".

This whole thing started because of updates that Windows had her do. She says there was a windows update and a GeForce update and nothing has been right since.

I'm gonna have her do the other steps and see what happens.

she can't upload original as the system owns it. But she can upload the copy.

I told her to copy it to her desktop and she still couldn't do anything with it. I'll try and go through it with her again later.

It is possible the desktop folder (desktop items are in a folder) is also protected so she might want to use Documents folder to copy to,

I can't check myself as I don't have anything in the folder (nor ever set it up) but many other people have followed same instructions so it should work.

Nope, still no luck. Even in documents.

And if she tries to upload them, she gets errors from the web page (presumably because it has no rights to access the file)

You should be able to copy the original dmp file from that folder to any other and then you own the new file. Copying creates a file owned by you. So it doesn't make sense that you don't have permission to zip the copy. I can see what it says though.

That would make sense. Windows shouldn't let you move files you don't own, but that's just logical & Microsoft aren't logical at best of times.

Thanks! Let me know when you have further information. I did a quick look with some software and it came up with the SYSTEM_PTE_MISUSE from that dump.

This makes a lot of sense. Overwatch works (doesn't use EAC), but Rust and DBD both crash as they use EAC.

But what's confusing, is we've reinstalled Windows a few times, so how does this still happen?

Yes that's the PC she has.

We're running diagnostic checks with that software right now. There was no issues when we scanned "Operating System".

She is using wifi to connect.

I went into device manager and tried to update her wifi driver, and it says she has the newest one.

It says it's "Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265"

EDIT: We used the Intel Driver & Support Assistant and she had an update for the wifi driver. We installed it, restarted, and still got the crash you see in the first post from Dead By Daylight.

Nope, still the same issues.

Another thing is, she claims when she starts these games, it blacks out her other monitor and she can't see anything on it.

Overwatch doesn't do any of this, so it MUST be EAC doing something, as none of her EAC games work properly.

EDIT: Seems to mess with her "explorer.exe". Her screen just went completely black and had to open task manager, close explorer, and open it again to get it back.

We've repaired EAC, and it's still the same thing.
