alright, so what GPU would go good with an intel core 2 quad q9650?

That cpu will likely bottleneck most modern gpu's. If you could oc the q9650 I think it would pair nicely with a gtx 750ti or maybe even a gtx 1050. You also could find a used gtx 660 they can go for as low as $60.

A used 6 series card is the best option provided your PSU supports it, UEFI support will be an issue, so 7 series cards won't work.
