I am building an editing PC that will be required to run 4k footage and periodically work with After Effects.

I received an I7 6850x as payment for a gig recently and now I intend to build a rig around it.

The following are the components I have planned to build out the PC.

ASRock LGA2011-v3/ Intel X99/ DDR4/SATA3&USB3.1/ Wi-Fi/ATX Motherboard (X99 TAICHI) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ITOLDQI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_F2EeAbFQWN74T

G.SKILL F4-3000C15D-32GTZ TridentZ Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Intel Z170 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0171GQHZC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_E3EeAb9Y13Q7N

Noctua NH-D14 6 Heatpipe Dual Radiator with 140mm/120mm Dual SSO Bearing Fans CPU Cooler https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002VKVZ1A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_k4EeAb5B7RK3X

Plextor M8Pe 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid-State Drive with Heatsink (PX-512M8PeG) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JCXXRVE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_U4EeAbRV2WDE4

SanDisk 1TB Ultra 3D NAND SATA III SSD - 2.5-inch Solid State Drive - SDSSDH3-1T00-G25 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071KGRXRG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_m5EeAbT8YCAN6

The rest I will pull from my existing rig.

Will this work well?

Solution
It mostly all looks good, 6 cores. What GPU is best depends on what editing software you use.

Instead of the one 512gb plexor, you might put a 128gb Plexor PcIe card, or a Sandisk or Samsung 128gb m.2 card, as a boot drive. Use that to install Windows and your editing and after effects software.

Then you need a 2nd working drive - for eg. a 256gb ssd - for an exclusive scratch/media cache drive for the editing software and after effects.

Also, FYI - The 32GB ram may not be enough for after effects working in 4k - so just keep an eye on that. It's an easy upgrade to go higher. Note - it's best to fill up the memory slots in banks of four - so populate four of them, or all eight - because that CPU has 4 memory channels. Meaning, it'll...

Solution
Wow that is an awesome processor. Nice. So the only thing I would maintain is to instead have two SSDs, one for boot and applications, and one as a clean drive for scratch/media cache. Then you are setup real well.
