I want to build a system to use at my shows. Right now I am using my lap top it does a good job most of the time, but I also do karaoke. When I am doing karaoke my lap top sometimes freezes up. From what I can find out it is because of running video and audio at the same time causing it to overheat. Any way I want to build a (compact system) as I already have to carry a lot of stuff in for each show. I have an old Compaq case that I was planning on using. If someone could recommend a smaller one that would work that would be great. The size of the case is about 14H, 15D, and 7W the mother board that is in it now is about 9 3/4 X 9. So I am looking for advice on components that will fit in this case. Again it any one knows of a smaller on that will work for my build let me know along with the right components that will fit it.

What I need
I want to run W/7 64 bit
I need at least 1 TB hard drive if not 2
A decent graphics card that will do dull video
A decent sound card.
I want at least 8GB ram or at least be able to add that much at some point (and make use of it all)
I am thinking a Cooler Master 600W or better PSU.

I think that is about all I would have to have

You can wait a little while for the new AMD Llano laptops, they're about to show up, those will have a small power draw but strong capabilities.

The onboard audio and video on that motherboard are good. You can get a dedicated sound card, where's the audio output to and it's analogue or digital?



 
While I agree with most of what mosox said, I cant see why you would want to lug that big fat case around, newegg has a nice Rosewill case w/300W PSU for a decent price

Its basically an HTPC case, but it will drive that entire system, be alot lighter and smaller, and save you a good chunk of money to get a nice little LCD monitor with!
I also would recomend going with an WD Black edition hard drive for it, you want something that can take the bumps youre going to dish out carrying this around the WD Black is very heavy duty............

The audio is going from my lap top to a mackie 16 channel mixer so I guess it would be analogue. And thanks for the information, I have looked at every thing and this looks like it will work. I am going back now to read the reviews and such, but the mother board looks like it might support two screens witch I do need.
 


This case looks like what I am looking for, I think I will be going with the parts that mosox listed minus the case and the power supply. I read the reviews on the case and it sounds good on every thing but the small power supply and a noisy fan. It was herd to tell if it was the fan on the PSU or the cooling fan that was so noisy. Thanks for the inforamtion and help.
