Building a gaming PC

I'm a long time gamer, but this is my first swing at building a gaming PC; luckily my bud has been assisting me along the way, but I'd love a third (or possibly fourth) opinion in what should I throw together, and if the thing will work or not. I ended up concocting parts that added up to $800.00.
Here's what I came up with.

Motherboard:
Had some trouble deciding if I wanted to have a motherboard with an onboard chipset or not. I have a new Windows XP professional setup that I will stick on the computer and then will upgrade to windows 7 64bit. However, my bud said that the onboard chipset MAY have some problems, so I'm still wishy washy.

Welcome to the forums!

I only have a second here, so this is just direction for you to do a little more research.

Since you're using a discrete GPU, either board will work for you. I think Asus has a little better reputation for quality and CS and that would be my first choice if they are price similarly.

HDD: Look at the samsung F3 spinoint 1tb. Might save you a few bucks.

Optical drive: Need one?

PSU: Rosewill is a brand made specifically for Newegg. They are a etailer, and just put their name on the box of whoever makes them. Far from experts on high quality parts. Use the link in my sig to get to the PSU ranking list we have going. Shop for one off tier 1 or 2 in any of the lower amp brackets. You won't need 630w for your rig. A good 430w PSU would do well like the Corsair 450w or Antec Earthwatts 430 green.

asking people what they think of your build is like asking someone what they think of the job their government is doing....prepare to hear complaints.

Most people prefer the parts in their own PC and will recommend them over other parts. The most important thing on a build is that all the parts work together and come from legit manufacturers, looks likes yours do. Enjoy building it and have fun!

I myself prefer the 770 chipset since I don't need or use on-board graphics.

LOL, yes, it is a loaded question isn't it.

Myself, I like having the integrated graphics available because it is a backup I can use if my primary card goes down or use it to trouble shoot some problems.

I have my trusty 7300LE for just such an occasion, i simply dust it off and plug it in

its slight faster in gaming then drawing each frame by hand after doing six shots of rum in a row....slightly

But not nearly as funny since you have the option to add mustaches and horns to EVERY character you fight.
