Building my semi gaming pc

hi guys im new to this forum but im not new to computers, nor an expert

here is my specs on the computer that im going to build

case: Xazer VI
mother board: asus rampage II Gene
processor: core i7 920
graphics card: 2x 1 gb geforce gts 250
hard drive WD 500GB and 2x WD 320 GB
power supply: cooler master real power pro 1250w
OS: windos 7 professional
cpu cooling is: bigwater 760i

now the question is whould i get a corsair 12 Gb xms or a 6 gb dominator

an also im open to suggestions if you thing that this is lacking....im not an extreme gamer but i spend lots of time with my computer whether gaming or doing projects.... 😀 😀

id go LGA1156 for gaming, over 1366. its better for that, so unless you will be doing alot of other CPU intensive tasks i wouldnt get the 920.

is there a reason you are going dual GTS250's?
a single 5xxx series ATI card would be a much better choice.

your PSU is massive overkill. you could run 4 GPUs with that.

cooling, the 760i isn't a very good watercooling system. ive recently been researching it myself, and you can get air coolers that perform the same.

Well 12 gigs of ram is overkill for gaming but if his so called ( im not an extreme gamer but i spend lots of time with my computer whether gaming or doing projects )
happened to be rendering 3D images / AUTO CAD / Large Photoshop work ect he might need 12 gigs but if not 6 gigs on the X58 mobo would be fine.


So i think its relevant to know what this PC is for or should we give him a HD 5970 for a 1280x1024 resolution

If you add a 2nd GPU down the road get a 750W PSU might also look into maybe a 80 gig SSD for your boot drive / not sure how you setup your HDD 1 for OS programs 1 for scratch disk 2 for storage ?

If your not to concerned about maxing games and just like to have fun i would drop to a HD 5770 and get a 80 gig SSD

system builder is an OEM, you dont get a box, warranty or technical support, and it can only be installed on one machine, one time.

the full version allows for technical support and warranty, and you can install it on numerous PCs (only one at a time, but you can move it to a new PC when you upgrade for instance)

OEM is for system builders ( if you are building a system ) you are the system builder, and the OEM OS can be used on one PC.

Full ver OS can be used on 3 PCs, if you have more then one pc and want the OS on them, it might be better to buy a full ver

Pretty sure that's not quite true. My understanding is that the retail version can be transferred from one PC to another as long as the previous PC is no longer active/using the OS. Additionally, if you have a retail copy, you can contact Microsoft for support. Though really, how many times have you wanted to do that in your life?

In other words, buy a retail version, and if you decide to build a new PC, you can transfer the license to the new PC, assuming you never use the old PC (or put a different OS on it). If you were to buy an OEM version, you couldn't do that.

OEM versions are tied to a specific motherboard, though if you lose one due to failure or damage or something, you can call Microsoft and explain to them why you need a new key. They have generally been able to provide this for me in the past when I've lost a motherboard to events beyond my control.

However, a retail copy is at least double the price of an OEM copy. Do you plan on using Windows 7 for your next 3 consecutive builds? Probably not. There will probably be a new OS out by the time you're doing your next build.

Yes. The OEM OS will be linked to your mobo so if the mobo should go bad then you would have to call microsoft and tell them that my mobo is bad and get a new OS key. you can reinstall the OS as many time as you like on the one PC as long as it has the same mobo.
