Just finished speaking with the HP-Compac man and learned
that the the CD-RW drive that came with my Presario
desktop is designed to use CD-RW+ blank disks which cost
about $5 each.

Their program is called HP RecordNow!(Sonic). My use will
be strictly for data (text) files, and I want to rewrite
the same as with the 3.5 floppy disks. Is there some way
I can use the regular CD-RW discs with this software? Any
and all suggestions welcome.

I've never seen CD disks labeled - or + (but of course this could be
something new and proprietary). Are you sure this isn't a DVD recorder?
Those come in - and + varieties, and the disks could cost that much, if you
didn't shop around a bit.

Thanks D. Currie. You were right - The RW+ blank disks
are for the DVD-RW drive. Saved me much time and grief!
Best wishes for good things to happen to you.

I think you must be looking at DVD +RW discs not CD RW. (CDs have no +/-
distinction)

CD RW's can presently be purchased for about 70 cents (USD) a piece.

Using packet writing software (possibly already installed on your system)
you can use CD RW's just like any other drive on your system to
read/write/rewrite to. If what you have is a DVD + R/RW drive you should
still be able to use standard CD R/RW discs.

Sonics packet writing software is called "Sonic DLA" and writes to either CD
or DVD.

Thank you for clearing up that there is no such thing as
a CD-RW+ blank disk. Called the HP-Compaq support number
back, and this time the gal who answered confirmed what
you wrote - that only DVD blanks come with the RW+.

You saved me from boxing the machine back up and
returning! My gratitude to you - blessings on you from
above!

The + or - are two methods of read/write to DVD.
Unless the DVD burner is a +/- (does both) it cannot write or read RW+ as
its a RW- writer.

Yes, but *which* one?
