I was wondering if it's be worth saving up for an i5 3570 just for the extra cores or just cheap it for hyper threading since I feel I'd benefit greatly from it being on a Celeron G530 at the moment.

Edit: I'd also like to add that I'm only looking to upgrade since I'm looking to buy an EVGA GTX 750 ti (sc) and don't want any form of bottleneck when playing modern games

Solution
Xeons are/always have been i5/i7 CPU's with the igp removed & locked clocks - they perform exactly the same as an equivalent model i5/i7 at comparable clock speeds.

Looking around there are a lot of i5 2400's on bin prices of £60-70 from reasonably trusted sellers.
I might be inclined to go for a 2400 locked i5 over a k series as any 2500k on there has a good chance of being abused by overclockers in its working lifetime.

ah okay well those heights should be no concern

^ as above the 2400 doesn't need hyperthreading as its a true 4 core/4 module CPU.
The ram speed is a non issue - 1600mhz will default to 1333mhz with lower latency - performance difference is negligible.

Regarding cooler - you have to make allowance for standoffs ,motherboard & CPU so checking your case model is a good idea.

Since my pc was built for me that case was very basic so I'm not sure what the model is, there's no logo's or words on it so I have no idea, the dimensions are 18cm Width, 42.5cm Depth and 36cm Height. With the width in mind and there being a 3cm or more gap I'd say it should be fine

Id say you're fine too

The rhea is 130mm
Tx3evo 136mm
Hyper 103 138mm

If you want easiness go with the rhea - its a straight Intel replacement cooler - push pins are prefitted - apply paste ,pop cooler on - turn pins - job done in 30 seconds.
The other 2 are amd / Intel compatible so cone with assorted brackets etc you have to fit first.

the rhea seems like the best then since it's simplicity, definitely for LGA 1155 yes?

I should probably have put this with my initial tbh, Specs...

MB - MSI H61M-P20 (G3) [v 2.5]
PSU - 500W
GPU - Asus GT 630 2GB (ancient so upping to EVGA GTX 750ti SC soon)
RAM - 1 stick of Cheap 1333MHz 4gb
CPU - Intel Celeron 6530 @2.4GHz (LGA 1155)

Alright, so I should still go for the 2400 correct?

that's the dream haha, don't have enough for high end cpus at this moment in time

Download & run cpu-z mate ,post a screen clip of the memory & SPD tabs.

I have some spare 4gb sticks of 1333mhz ram here - if I have one close spec I could do you it cheap;-)

I could probably also hunt you a new haswell i5 cooler out of the loft in all honesty.

So this would work with my system yes?

No reason it wouldn't - I was going to offer the ram at £12 but in all honesty its only £13.44 from amazon
Kingston Technology KVR13N9S8H/4 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz Non ECC DIMM Memory https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008CP5QF4/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_lL6VvbX3XKT9B

If for some reason it didn't work (but it should) one of us would be out of pocket on postage.

It would probably be better just to go with amazon as you can return it foc no questions asked.

Your ramnis currently running at 1066 - that's a limitation of your celeron.
With the 2400 fitted it should run at the higher speed of 1333mhz.

so would it be better to just get 2 sticks of 4gb 1600mhz ram with my new cpu or will there not be much difference?
