Question Buy matching 2x8 kit or new 2x16 kit?

The potential pitfall is not knowing what the X570 supports.

Check both the motherboard's User Guide/Manual and MSI's website for supported RAM configurations.

Also check various RAM manufacturer's websites to see what they list as compatible RAM and RAM configurations.

Key is to discover some consensus regarding current RAM installations/configurations.

Details matter.

This compatibility page makes no sense, I'd feel safer just getting the 2x16GB in that case.

I currently have G.Skill Ripjaws V CL16 3600Mhz 2x8GB and was looking to upgrade to 32GB to go with a 5800X3D. I can either get a matching kit making it 4x8 GB or get a new 2x16GB kit for basically the same price and was wondering if there is any difference in performance or if there are any pitfalls I need to watch out for?

If it matters, I have a MSI X570 A-Pro.
It's easier to get 2 sticks to play nice together than 4 sticks.

If you can't figure out MSI site, did you look on here for motherboard model?

if they are a matching kit, the number of sticks may not matter. You get more benefit on 5000 series CPU with 4 sticks.
