EA:

- you are destroying a 'classic' single-player experience!! - please re-check what this game was all about!....you have done this, haven't you??

-This makes absolutely NO business sence, whatsoever - do you trully have any idea how many people are not going to be happy - all for the risk of offsetting this for the 'chance' of securing a new group?

- Most of us don't mind having a multiplayer option included (e.g. SC2) - but included alongside a single player experience of high standard equal to the game's history and pedigree.

“You can see what the community wants, you can give it a shot, you can put it up for a weekend and see how it goes, develop towards what the fans like.”

--> are you suggesting the user should be beta-testing with the 'carrot' being the possibility of a future single-player add-on??

Please re-consider the single-player experience.

It's only called "Command And Conquer" now (Generals 2 no longer exists, check your facts :p), and yeah EA fucks up again.

"Back to the roots my ass"
First C&C was "only" SP.

Seriously What the hell is wrong with the Publishers nowaday?
They just ruin franchises and shit all over the consumers.

EA + "F2P", yes going to end well.
They will most likely sell Premium Accounts (Increased xp/credits gain and have the base xp/cred gain BE SO DAMN LOW, just like World Of Tanks , if not worse) "Unit DLC" , "Gold Coins"
etc etc.

I'm really starting to get frustrated in todays "market".

I was kind of excited when this was announced. C&C 4 has a 2.5 user rating on metacritic, someone at EA has to be taking notes right? Then they slap "bioware" on a studio that has nothing to do with bioware and task them with making a C&C that is sounding less and less like C&C. Name it to sell it, that is all they seem to want to do and cash in on a name someone else spent a decade building, customer goodwill be damned. What leaves me more confused is that C&C 3 was actually a good game, that was done entirely under EA. Kanes wrath was even better. It was a great lead in the the sucker punch that was C&C4 and now they have pretty much irreparably tarnished their credibility with me.

In my opinion most free to play games are free to play, but they are also PAY TO WIN. Instead of actually trying to be good at a people will just throw money at it so they can have busted things and just win, without ever learning how to play the game.

Also no single player campaign. BS! Half the reason i play C&C games was for the single player campaign. Like many other I thing Zero hour was the last good C&C, and its sad that EA is just driving this and all of its other good IPs into the dirt.

Ha. CnC has nothing on Starcraft II, the RTS ESPORT, ESPECIALLY since the expansion of SC2 Heart of the Swarm is coming out Early 2013. I forsee CnC just being overlooked unless its beyond superhuman epic.

Oh and its ESPORTS not e-Sports.

C&C Generals/Zero Hour was the last good C&C release they had. People complaining about the graphics or quality of the game? Of course the graphics are bad by today's standards: the game came out almost a decade ago, so stop to consider the hardware in use at the time. However, it was the last time they had a good story line structure that didn't somehow look like a cross between cheesy COD with the intent on mimicking Metal Gear. If you have played every C&C game since the original Red Alert and Tiberian Sun up to the latest 'C&C Universe' of games, then you understand how bad the more recent titles have been...barely scraping by on the name alone.

The fact is that almost every RTS game out today has roots in the battle/build system implemented by C&C in some form.

I will be playing Generals2, because it has the talented dev team behind the horns, not like previous EA iterations as of late.

The EA will be only publisher, and paytowin induced gameplay, but I can accept that, welcome to 2010+ era of gaming for the stupid that parts with money they don't have.

Not having a story? I can live with that, but PLEASE do offer a sort of SANDBOX mode against AI to test out units, builds, against computer comp stomps, and throw in MULTIPLAYER compstomps too please :)

I have played CNC Zerohour for over 2 years, daily, and it was the best PC game in existence, as CNC holds a special place in my heart. since Dune2 of Westwood studios, that started the genre.

unfortunately, EA did poop on our morning cornflakes, with anything after that game, CNC related. they even went desperate to hire porn stars to do RA3 cutscenes.

now they want to do away with story and cutscenes.... whatever. This is a good sign though, seeing how the EA bean counters don't know how to make any good story for this.

so let it be, Multiplayer only, I can't wait, afterall, these games is where it shines best, against humans, 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and hopefully, 8v8 in no lag mode!

put your money to have no lag, and long needed support for patches, please EA.

here is hoping, that Gen2, will be what Diablo2, was to Diablo1.

NOT DIABLO 3! LMAO! although, it's coming back now with 1.04.

Going to be interesting to see you play a game that will never exist.

Haven’t played C&C 4 so don’t have an opinion but I’ve played every C&C before that and have enjoyed them all.

I'm not sure where this is going, is the experience of single player in the future titles fading away?

Honestly if it is, I blame World of Warcraft. A game dominant in multiplayer online bringing in lots of subscription revenue would set evil examples for other lazy greedy developers.

EA: Let’s do the same thing with Generals 2. Would cut the production time in half not including single player and if/when we make our profit we 'may add single player later' if it’s a success. I doubt it.

Don’t get me wrong i multiplay and love it too, but I like single player as well and if its good I’ll pay for it.

During these economic hard times and people penny-pinching, the publishers are relying on previous commercial successes and using the respective names to over-hype a half-ass job of creativity and imagination to keep the stockholders happy and shares up (D3, this, and others to come) :(

>F2P, multiplayer only, account-based, esports

So let me get this straight. This new "Command and Conquer" game (not sure if I should even call it that) is going to be some sort of bastardized lovechild of Starcraft 2, League of Legends, and Command and Conquer?

Sorry, EA. I'm done with this.

And no, I don't give two flying fucks if it's using Frostbite engine or a modified Quake engine - there is nothing "sweet" about this "deal" at all (and by deal I mean good, hard shafting).

Don't know how many times I have to say this to EA, but all you have to do is take the original CnC and CnC Red Alert and update the graphics. Thats it. Nothing else need be done. Stop fudging with my nearly 20 year old game you epic morons.
I want single player. I don't want to listen to the whining jerkoffs online. I don't need to sign into Origin to play single player.
I actually enjoy Tiberium Alliances on Free2Play, but that is not the direction you want to go with the original titles. You will lose your following.

"Hmm, no, let's not make a single-player campaign. Takes too much time."
"Hey, let's not make our own engine this time around, either - we'll borrow somebody else's!"
"I bet if we call it a AAA title and say it's geared for esports, we can make it pay-to-win and suck everyone's money!"
