C5140 wrong cartridges error

I have a new HP Photosmart C5140. When I plugged in the cartridges it gave me an error.
Wrong Cartridges - Use the introductory cartridges that were shipped with your printer.
I went back to the supplier and they gave me a new set of cartridges in the simple clear plastic with White labels (I assumed these are the "introductory" cartridges referred to) but after restart of printer the same message appeared.
Need some help.

I think I would return the whole thing -- if it's so choosy about which cartridge you feed it, you won't be able to use cheap generic cartridges in future.

It may simply be a hardware fault, in which case it should also go back.
