Do you have to use an Ethernet cable with PCIe network adapters?

I just got my first computer as a gift and know practically nothing about that actual mechanics of it all, I was also given a usb WiFi dongle that didn’t work very well so I bought a PCI express network adapter from amazon.

I followed the instructions and put it in and downloaded the driver fine however in my network connection settings it is under Ethernet and I apparently can’t connect without a network cable? I had read that WiFi cards worked on their own? Help

Ziyituod Gigabit Wifi Card, AC1200Mbps PCIe Wireless Card with Bluetooth 4.2, Dual-Band PCI-Express Network Card(5GHz 867Mbps / 2.4GHz 300Mbps) for Desktop PC, Supports Windows 10/8/7(32/64Bit) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07TC3MWCW/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_Tur4EbAH7KPP6

If you're UK this is just under £21 with the 5% off, it's absolutely rock solid and maxes my virgin 150meg connection.

Its not the cheapest but its worth the extra, also bluetooth 4.2 thrown in for free.
