Can AMD salvage QFX with an in-house chipset?

Dont sweat Baron.

He could drive his car through your living room wall and run you over, then blame you for getting blood on his tire and tell its none of your buisness how he drives his car.

I think that's a little overblown. PC purchases dont' enter into the realm of vehicular manslaughter.

But either way Opteron dual is a good idea, Woodcrest dual is a good idea, QFX is a good idea.

PERIOD!!

If you don't that doesn't mean I'm wrong, it means you have usage patterns different than mine and don't see the need.

I think this is just getting mean spirited. If the conversation doesn't get back to hardware soon, this thread will be sent for lockage.

For the record, I wasn't being mean. :) If I'd intended to be mean I'd not have used  😀

So to get back on topic, I'm sure you arehappy with your purchase as I'm sure I will be. If I'm not, then I'm the only one who paid anything.

Get over it.

I take no offense to you thinking I shoudln't buy this. The offense comes when you make personal statements regarding my intellect as a factor of my desire to have two sockets witohout ECC, SCSI.

Either way though, I wouldn't try to convince me of anything other than FX70 is less than C2Q and X6800 and fits somewhere in between perf-wise for the apps I want it for. Actually I would need to see comiler tests and VM tests to see if C2Q would actually be better for my usage patterns.

But then the price difference will still win just liek 4400+ won when compared to FX60 last Nov.

Then stop asking advice and useless questions like "Can AMD salvage QFX with an in-house chipset?"
You've obviously convinced yourself.
Motion to lock thread!

Do you sell computers or are you the best programmer in a major city or are you actually a janitor in a Best Buy outlet?

These are the kind of cowardly personal attacks that make me say the things that I say. They also mean that I would stomp you out if you whispered something like that near me.

it's REALLY ON NOW. You thought I was bad before.....................................................................................

To be frank, I would not buy the 4X4 platform until it was matured and better implemented. But in all honesty, Baron your being very disrespectful to quite a few members here. I may be a newbie here, but I know disrespect when I see it. Why exactly are you going to try and start a flame war? It would have been better if everyone agrees to disagrees, rather than fighting over which side is more right than the other. All it boils down to is personal opinion, factual evidence, performance numbers and benchmarks. Let each side present their opinion and if necessary counter it.

But moving on, the 4X4 platform is still in it's infancy. Give it 6-12 month and then maybe I would consider buying it. For me I would rather have a dual core platform that is more affordable than an ungodly expensive piece of hardware that would shoot my electric bill through the roof, produces a lot of noise, and is not as good as say Intel's implementation. Mind you that I'm running a socket 939 Athlon 64 3200+ that I am quite happy with.

Baron, if you need proof for me to back up my statements about the electricity, the noise and the performance numbers just ask and I will post.

You sound like that .. never mind. WHo said anythign about starting a flame war? This is what happens when you jump into the middle of something that only deserves your input as to the topic not your Freudian view of my intentions.

Unless of course you are an accredited Psychologist or something, in which case I may accept your criticism and determine if you're just being one of those "take it easy on people" idiots who feel that not everyone deserves respect and Intel buyers get to choose.

I don't think anyone here cares what you buy, what you use it for or for that matter what your preference is. It's your behavier which incites the disdain. I may even buy one of these systems to tinker around with in six months or so when they become available.

If you keep handing the members here bullets you are probably going to continue being shot at.

Let loose the dogs of war oh mighty one.

Supporting AMD and this platform is all I did. I don't bend because you say you have a link to some crap I probably have already seen and don't care about.

Electric bill shooting through the roof is not possible with one PC. Your insistence that everyone will be at 100% load with 8800 SLI for 24 hours a day is the biggest load of propagandist garbage I have ever read.

Yes, two chips use more power than one. But they also do more work so you do actually get what you pay for EVEN IF YOU DON'T BUY C2Q.

With all due respect, in my personal opinon Baron, everyone that is posting in here has a valid point about what is said. I merely stated my personal opinion on about how discussions should somewhat be. I am not an accredited psychologist, but quite frankly I didnt just state a view upon your intentions. I clearly stated my personal opinion based upon what I have researched about the Quad FX platform. To back up my statement about why the Quad FX is not as competitive to the QX6700 I will post the evidence to support my statement.

Sadly my weakest point will be the audio levels of the Quad FX. For now I am going to stick with extremetech since I continously read up on the reviews by many different sites to try and get a wide perspective about the product being reviewed. From what Etremetech says the Quad FX is one of the loudest, if not the loudest system they have ever tested. So if if anyone want to try and tear apart of opinon and shoot holes through it, your more than welcome to. I may just be a newcomer to the forums, and just a youngster to many people, but I do my homework and make sure that I try to support my statements with concrete evidence. Lest they be benchmarks and performance numbers. I'd rather get real world performance versus canned and synthetic benchmarks. But moving on though, I apologize if I sound as if I'm some arrogant little kid who acts like he knows everything. Frankly, I dont know everything, but I know enough. Baron your more than welcome to fault me on anything I say. But in all honesty, Baron you might be more intelligent than me and have more information about the Quad FX than I do, heck there are several if not dozens of members who know more about the technical aspect of the Quad FX platform.

The problem is that you assume that I don't have a 550W surround sound stereo rihgt next to my PC so I will rarely hear it anyway. But that gets back to the point that I already know all of that.

If I really think the nois eis too much I can always get Tornado HSFs which are really quiet. I could also go with water cooling on the GPU ( several companies are shipping water cooled GPUs).

I could also get larger slower spinning case fans. Enthusuiats buy that kind of stuff all the time to quiet their machines. Will it not work with QFX?

Everything you say means nothing because I have read all of the reviews and what I look for is not what you look for.

Why can't you just leave it alone? The title of the post is not

How do you quiet and cool a QFX? ( no pun intended)

It was

Could the pre-release chipset in the reviews be a part of the single threaded perf problem?

Child!

I'm being childish? Good one!

A dev box is a PC that runs Visual Studio, SQL Server, Virtual Server - all of which are EXTREMELY MULTITHREADED.

Dev is short for Developer. C#, Java, C++, ASP.Net etc. These all love multicore and FX62 has no chance just like X6800. The only thing that will be even close to QFX is C2Q or some other combo of four cores.

Especially in 64bit Vista.

QFX Rocks!!

   If you love so much dev, why don't GNU/linux your life. :?: :?: :?:

Windows is the de facto standard for desktop apps.

 Yes, and GNU/Linux it's the "de facto" developers OS, that's why I ask. So ? Time of change? 8) 😱

What a LOAD OF CRAP!

A 16GB USB stick ain't going to do ANYTHING to NUMA! Hell, I wouldn't put my swapfile on those things. What'd happen if you pulled it out? The OS asks for memory stored in the swapfile, which is gone... take a wild guess what would happen. (btw, I keep my swap file on a 15K SCSI hard drive)

1. USB latency is SKY HIGH compared to SYSTEM RAM!!
2. USB devices are not allocated memory space in a system!!!!
3. USB devices go through a host controller, and a driver! This adds latency!
4. Flash memory is SLOW AS HELL!! 10 MB/sec is PRETTY DAMNED AWESOME for a flash stick!

Actually MS is talking about a new kind of usb drives. It (Ms) says it will be like 10 times faster 8O :!: . It uses a new kind of chips I heard. 8)

I have been looking at Mono, but Windows has been bery bery good to me.
SQL 2005/Exchange 2007 and .Net 3.0 are looking really good and I can even sell the products rather than the services.

Unlike you, I didn't buy QuadFX. I bought Kentsfield. Therefore, I'm verrrry happy.
