Can any lga775 processor go on a lga775 socket board?

i have an emachines W3650, i want to upgrade it badly and have a 200 dollar budget, mabye a little bit more like 250 so i wanted to get the E6800 and a GTX260 but i saw the q9505 and thought maybe i could get that on ebay or something for cheap, so will this work on my 945G-M3 (V3.0) motherboard??

Are you sure, because the bus speed is faster than the supported bus speed of my motherboard?

You mobo HAS to support the bus speed of the chip. If your chip is faster than your fsb on your mobo it WONT work. You cant run a 1333 chip in a 1066 fsb mobo. If you look at the link that DX provided, it says nothing about supporting a Core 2 Quad.

thats what i thought, and i have look at that page many times today and thought maybe if... etc but after doing some research I've become a bit more knowledgeable with CPUs. Thanks for the quick feed back, and I have decided on my upgrade parts and am now look into overclocking (this is gonna be a doozy). I SAW A E6800 AT 5.4 Ghz! thats crazy

Generally true although some motherboards will overclock. For example my Gigabyte P965 DS3 v2 supports FSB up to 1066 however the E8500 IS on the official supported CPU list at 1333 FSB with a note that the latest BIOS is required as is overclocking.

I guess it may be hit or miss as to whether you can actually make an overclock stick so not worth the risk but it is technically possible.
