i was wondering if there is a way to check what CPU an old computer has when its not working. i don't want to disassemble the CPU's cooling unit as it is problematic in this case.
is it possible the cooling unit(came originally with the cpu from intel) has the cpu model written on it? or maybe the cooling unit has a model number that might be cpu exclusive?

Solution
If this is a brand-name PC, somewhere on it should be a label with model number, serial number, or even spec sheet. Motherboard model can lead you toward CPU generation / architecture.

Same Intel coolers can be used across several CPUs, so they wont tell a lot.
