sorry about the double post. Not sure where the best place for my problem is, bu....

i just hooked up a wireless router to my home lan. (2k) on my work laptop (xp pro), i just created a new hardware profile and joined the domain, but it seems to have wiped out my work domain on both hardware profiles. whats the best way for me to do this so i can use my work laptop to connect to my resources at home when im here?

hardware profiles have nothing to do with domain membership. i dont think what your asking is possible without the use of some third party software.

domains are not network interface specific. i suppose you could create a trust between the two domains, but i dont know if you can log onto the domain your not a member of through a trust agreement unless there is a domain controler for the domain its actually a member of present. does that make sense?

Actually, what you need to do is to set up two DOMAIN profiles, not user profiles or hardware profiles. Then you can switch between the two. I think that the article at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;283676&sd=tech can help you out.

I'm not even going to bother asking why you feel you need a domain at home, instead of simply running the home network as a peer-to-peer.

If you are running a workgroup at home, all you need to do is log in as usual. I take my work laptop home, and we run a domain at work and I have no problems whatsoever connecting to my home network.

I you are really running a domain at home, what the hell for??? Are different users signing onto different computers? Did you do that just to save the hassle of setting up each user on all computers???

i run a domain in my home, i have 5 computers. it just easyer to have one account that is a domain admin that has local admin on all the machines and is able to contact all the machines without having to have local u/p's. and its just fun to play around with.

I suppose there are advantages...just seems like overkill for the average setup....

Although we are anything but average

that article doesnt explain how to what hes doing at all. it just tells you how to keep a users documents and settings when the machine is migrated to a domain from a work group.
