Can I reload an OS on another HD?

This is a odd question that I'm sure has been answered but my search came up blank...

If I were building a PC and loaded Vista (bought and paid for) onto this PC, but then later upgraded my hard drive to a Raptor, could I remove the OS from my HD and reinstall it on my new HD? Is there any issues with this?

you could try ghosting the image if you make a backup of it...it's possible...no idea how well it will work, usually ghosted images fail if hardware changes have been made

So even if I own the copy of Vista (that will be the OS that I'm loading) and have the discs, Microsoft will not allow me to install it on my new HD directly? I guess I'll buy the Raptor HD when I do my build. Too bad I was hoping to wait until next summer before adding it.
