Hanyone transfered the guts from a HP slimline s550w to a standard atx case? If so, any issues I should be aware of before I try and do this?

Reason for - I would like a better video card for gaming and the low profiles are not good enough!

save up and build yourself a micro atx computer....you will have a small system and you will be able to put a full size video card and all of the standard pc parts...i fit my 7970 into nzxt vulcan case with removal of the floppy drives bracket
big manufacturers like to use proprietary parts so there can be some compability issues...they might be using an btx style motherboard while home build systems use atx motherboard....the difference between atx and btx is if you look at the case with atx the motherboard is mounted on the right side of the case if its stood up while with btx its on the left side if that makes sense

It looks like that model uses a standard mATX (microATX) motherboard so it should mount easily into a new "standard" case. HP is also pretty good about using standard front panel and USB connectors so that should not present an issue either.

You will also need to get a standard power supply to go into your new case, the HP one will not fit, nor would it power the sort of video card you indicate wanting to get.

Good luck!

Thanks for the insight. Never thought about looking up the MB style. The whole reason why I decided to try this is, I can get a new case and power supply INCLUDED for 55. vrs trying to upgrade the the Power Supply for the slimeline for 75.00 for the slimline and still have the hinderence of no room for video card. Looks like that is the plan. My only worries is that the MB might not line up correctly for the case mounting pegs. Was hoping someone has done this with the same equipment before. ty for all the feedback geek and alvine!
