I have a Dell XPS 8300 with 16GB. I am running Windows 7 Pro.

When I run Crucial's memory tool, it says that I cannot put anymore memory into my motherboard (4 x 4GB). My motherboard is a 0Y2MRG A00 and the processor is a 3.4 GHz i7-2600.

Can I put this processor on an upgraded motherboard so that I can install more RAM? If so, any recommendations? Obviously it would have to fit my current case.

Solution
Yes dear your processor is sandy bridge with socket LGA-1155 so this processor can be installed in any board supporting LGA-1155 socket. If you desire, mobo can be recommended as well.

Uh, that much I understand.

My question was can I put my processor on a different motherboard that will fit inside my existing case so that I can add more than 16GB of memory.
