Can IDF relight Intel's fire?

I hope not, but if this new chip is really the top dog, they may have us by the short hairs. Intels have been traditionally more expensive so you have to realize everything PD costs less than AMD X2 for a reason with loss of market share and a technically inferior chip. That will change with conroe and we may be paying more for braggin' rights.

It's the time of the year again. Intel will host its Spring Developer Forum this week. Needless to say, Tom's Hardware and TG Daily will be on location to see the first Meroms, Conroes and Woodcrests first-hand.

We'll be covering the event in detail and hope that you guys check back frequently for news and our reports; but we also hope that there will be a lively discussion about the new facts coming out of IDF.

We'll be checking back on your discussions and do our best to cover your questions in our articles.

To kick it off - what are your expectations in the new architecture? Performance? Power consumption? New features? Besting AMD?

Looking forward to your comments!

Great...another fanboy thread....here we go again

WELL WELL WELL AMD FANBOY, HOWS IT FEEL NOW SUCKER!

What you going to do now, buy a crap and overpriced AMD, or a cheap, colder and faster intel?

right, your version of the TOS on these forums state that there should be no positive outlook or a pinch of praise for Intel, no matter what they do...f'ing rubish.

Amd Mongrels will howl in pain for another 6-8 months or more, yeah prolly more.

Wow, I go to sleep for a few hours and the fanboys believe IDF.

1) Those were setup by Intel

2) They used an ATI DFI board that is known to perform bad

3) DDR2 vs. DDR1 @ Full DDR2 Bandwidth, that alone makes over 15% performance gain for Conroe

4) AMD has a new Architecture coming out in 2007, it took Intel 2 years to meet/beat the A64 architecture..

Wait for AM2 you stupid Intel Fanboys, when it becomes CPU vs. CPU and not DDR1 vs DDR2

PS: Looks like we got a huge score inrease for the fanboys and a nice new addition: PS: Looks like everybody became an Intel fanboy after seeing Intel setup benchmarks.

3) DDR2 vs. DDR1 @ Full DDR2 Bandwidth
Full DDR2 Bandwith with 667 ??? Are you sure?

An 800MHz FSB can't handle all of DDR2 667 Bandwidth, a 1066 Can handle more. So you're comparing about 5.5GB/s on AMD to 8GB/s+ On Conroe, this is a RAM test, not a CPU test.

MY GOD ARE YOU A GAY LORD AMD FANBOY, READ ANADNTECH'S COMMENTS - THEY USED THERE OWN FEAR BENCHMARK, AND CONROE WAS USING DDR2-667 (SLOWER THEN CL2 DDR400), AND AM2 BENCHMARKS A WHILE AGO USED DDR2-667 - THEY WILL SHARE THE BOOST AND INTEL WILL STILL BE INFRONT BY A LONG SHOT.

THE ATI CHIPSET IS CRAP BUT IT DOESNT MAKE PERFORMANCE BAD - THE MEMORY CONTROLLER IS ON DIE, BOARD TO BOARD AND CHIPSET TO CHIPSET THERE ISNT MUCH PERFORMANCE DIFFRENCE IN PERFORMANCE.

FACE IT AMD FANBOY - YOU FCUKED UP BIG TIME, YOUR TIMES UP.

NEVER DOUBT P6 AND THE ISRALE TEAM AT INTEL.

AND TO THINK, THATS ONLY THE 2.66GHZ MODEL - 3GHZ MODELS SOON AFTER TOO HAHAHAHAHA

AND 65NM AMDS? YEAH THEN THERES 45NM QUAD CORE BY THEN HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

You know, those benchmarks may need a little more scrutiny.
Perhaps THG should run the same tests at the shop.
Having Intel's cats would be helpfull.
Running those cats, and Ati's cats on an FX60 (at stock, no need for a ? OC) on a crossfire board with two X1900XTs might be interesting.
Then at least we would know that Intel played fair with the Amd setup.

nah iv compared the AMD benchmark results with others, there better (faster) then a 2600 amd, and actually a touch quicker then some benchmarks on other sites (amd x2 @ 2800) - there valid

i love what the fanboys are saying everywhere "AM2 is still being tweaked" - well SO IS CONROE!!!!!! LOL
