Question Can motherboards affect the PCIe slots for a WiFi card?

I have the same WiFi card as my brother. About same distance from router. Actually, I am closer by 2 feet. Pretty much, my wifi spikes and then goes back to normal and it does this every 20-30 seconds. Since the only difference we have in our PCs are the motherboards, can the PCIe slot in a motherboard(the slot where the wifi card plugs in) make a wifi card run better or something than a different motherboard? BTW ik Ethernet is better, I can't router the wire to where I am at in my home.

yes, there can be a difference in pcie slots between boards
a full sized pcie slot can be 16, 8 or 4 lanes
while a mini (the really short ones) can have 4 or 1 lanes

but even 1 lane of pcie 3.0 is 2gbit/s
which is probably 10 times as fast as your internet connection, if not more
meaning the pcie bandwidth isn't the problem

maybe try putting your brothers card in your pc
if there are no changes

put your card back in there and put the whole pc where your brother's is.

other than that... buy a better router/better card/connect through ethernet?

OH and of course update the cards drivers.

Thank you for answering. Question, my wifi card wiggles. Can a loose wifi card cause unstable connection? Or would a loose wifi card not even register on the system so it being loose would not mean its unstable?

a card being unstable because its loose can happen
but its very rare. usually it will just not register but being unstable can happen.

try putting it in a different slot and see if its still loose

and is your brothers the same?

Yeah his wiggles just a little bit. When I mean it wiggles I mean when I twist the antenna on it wiggles less than a centimeter but it's noticeable.

I updated my drivers, tried plugging into different pcie slots. Is there a way to see a routers vertical range? All these reviews show how good the range is when you're right and left of the router. Not up or down.

im not sure that is possible, sorry

maybe try getting a repeater in your room? those usually are very janky and dont work that well but sometimes they can save your butt.
