Ok, I dont know exactly what the hell happen yesterday. But now I can not do a search for a file on my system at all. If just puts this little box up on my screen with the caution! and says nothing the search engine looks like its still going but no results. every no and then it says search companion. but thats the most I get out of the error. I changed the search companion and shut it off. and still doesnt work. Anyone clued in on why this came out of the blue like this?

460 Watt Enermax Power Supply
A7N8X Asus Motherboard
AMD Barton 2800+
ATI 9700 Pro 128Meg Video Card
Samsung 19" Syncmaster191T Moniter "LCD"
Nforce APU "Nvidia built in sound card"
Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Speaker System
1.5GB PC2700 "DDR333" Memory From Micron
120GB Maxtor 2Meg buffer Harddrive "Main Drive"
40GB Western Digital "Back Up Drive"
16X40X Sony DVD Drive
52X24X52x Memorex CDRW
Logitech MX700 Wireless Mouse
Interlink Electronics Wireless Keyboard Model Number: VP6410K
Floppy Drive
4 cooling fans
Midtower Case
All done up in black and silver with sapphire blue glow from case
The following software is running in the backround. "and yes I did shut it off to see if that was it
Zone Alarm Pro
Incredimail
Kazaa
Windows Blinds 4.0
Norton Anti-Virus
Winxp pro with SP1A and all up todate

any wild ideas would be useful.

Everything else works, oh one thing I did alter yesterday was I put a second user on the system. But she couldn't of messed it up. she wasn't even home yet, so sadly I can't blame her...yet
Which brings up the fact can't put on passwords on either of us. As it thinks I haven't place a password in as I go to put one in the system.
Dunno if those are all related or not?

come on toey wave your magic toe at this one LOL

Here's a quote from Bob Cerelli that might help:

When doing a file search, if you get the error A File That Is Required to Run Search
Companion Cannot Be Found

1. Log on as an Administrator
2. Click Start
3. Select Run
4. Enter in the command - %systemroot%\inf
5. Right-click the Srchasst.inf file
6. Click Install
This tip might fix the problem, if the other didn't work:

How do you find all these links?
You tha man.

My Daddy used to tell me:
It's better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you're stupid,
then it is to open your mouth and prove it.
I never was good at taking advice!
