[SOLVED] Can you boot a PC without a HDD or any sort of storage.

Hi, i'm very new to the pc world.
Recently i got an old pc from a friend without a Hard Drive, so i tried to boot it without a Hard Drive or any sort of storage, but it won't work. is this becous i have no HHD or is there something else wrong with this pc?

It will not boot, without an OS, but can post without one. Are you at least getting some kind of bios, or brand, screen, when you try to turn it on?

if i try to turn it on, my monitor says: no cable. and then turns to blackscreen.

It will probably go into the BIOS.

Something is wrong with the PC if it isn't displaying anything.

You should be able to get a manufacturer logo and be able to access bios setup without a hard drive.

i forgot to say that there is a red light on the motherboard next to the sata slots, if i put the powercable in my pc.

Memtest86 will boot from a usb stick and test ram.
No OS or hard drive needed.
They boot from a usb stick and do not use windows.

A simple functional test.

Of course, there seem to be other issues.
Verify that the cpu cooler fan is connected and spins.
Verify that the ram is fully inserted.
Look up the motherboard manual to see what the red light indicates.

i forgot that if you wanted to go into bios, you needed to press F12
