Cannot Enable SLI in nvidia control panel and 2nd video card does not show up in

I am having the same issue with my Pc as Jamesday25. I have and A8N-SLI asus motherboard with and nforc4 chipset and an AMD ATHLON 64 4000 CPU.2gb ddr1 memory. This board is about 4 years old, but it has not been a problem ever. I had installed 2 8800gts video cards about 2 months ago. I decided to upgrade my system to 2 geforce 250GTS 1GB cards and run them in SLI MODE.When this problem first occured i did try each card separetly, and both work fine by themselves.I have kept all drivers up to date with my past cards. This whole problem did not start until I went back to a 1 video card set-up. When I tried to go back to SLI, it seems now that windows does not want to show 2 cards in the device manager,even though they were running fine 2 months ago (meaning the 2 8800gts's).Who out there has the fix for this problem?
 
N' Spire 600 watt SLI ready PSU. I have had it for over 2 years. Had the 8800 GT's working with it a few months ago without any issues. Both cards are in the machine as of this text and both cooling fans are running, but windows (and the nvidia control panel) does not see the second card. Every other device and programs on my rig works fine except for this problem..Thanks tony84
 
Have you tried uninstalling the drivers and do a fresh install of the lastest drivers? Also, have you updated your board drivers as well? It sounds like with your older board it doesn't want to see both cards of newer technology.
 


Yes, I did uninstall the old drivers first. I have not yet updated my board drivers though due to the fact that when I went to the asus website to check what drivers I needed for that board, it only posted the original drivers that were installed when the board was made in 2005. This included the chipset drivers and the bios. There is a pending bios update that is in the beta stages for this board but do not know when they will be released. The original bios version is still posted as the most current one to flash, but I would only do that as a very very last resort. Anyway, I went to the nvidia site and found legacy chipset drivers for this board (since they do not support this older chipset anymore) and found that their chipset version was older than the one found on the asus site. Not sure which drivers to install.. the asus site one or the nvidia one. do not want to go back to an older chipset and I really do not want to loose my ethernet drivers since what I am told that when you update nivida chipset drivers you may loose your ethernet drivers also. let me know what ya think and thanks for trying tecmo34
 



I first installed the Geforce GTS 250 card. Added the latest driver version. 190.62 WHQL. It loaded fine, it worked great. I then purchased a 2nd GTS 250. I installed the card and when I started the PC, I got no signal going from the pc to the monitor (LCD 22"). I then took off the bridge that connects the 2 cards and rebooted my system. I got the signal to my monitor from the 1st card. I tested it and ran some graphic intensive games and it worked very well. Windows did not show the 2nd card attached to the motherboard in the device manager, even though I observed that the 2nd card's cooling fan was working. I then shut down the PC and reconnected the bridge to the 2 cards. I started up the PC and it POSTed fine. As state before , all devices and programs work,,,,,except; that I do not get the prompt to enable SLI and window does not show the 2nd card attached to the board.

I recommend installing the most current drivers, even if from ASUS to see what happens.

So you have both cards in the system but the Windows Device Manager isn't showing two cards? Does the Nvidia Control Panel give you in option for enabling SLI?
 

Have you tried leaving both cards in with the SLI bridge on and then uninstalling the driver rebooting and reinstalling the driver?, hopefully you will see the driver find and install software for the GTS250 twice and then after rebooting fingers crossed the SLi enable balloon will pop up.
 



Yes I have. Still no 2nd card in device manager.
 




The Nvidia control panel does not show or allow me to enable SLI either. Even when I click on the "System information" in the control panel in the lower left hand corner, tells me only 1 card is installed and detailed info as to speed, memory and such that is part of the GFX card. As I stated above, All things work graphically with either card inserted in the main slot and apprantley working alone. I tend to believe it is a windows issue, but I will try to install the Nvidia chipset driver and see what happens.

I would think if you don't have the Nvidia chipset install, the board will not recognize the second GPU since it doesn't have the SLI board chipset.

Do you still have the 8800 to try in SLI and see what they do or have you tried that and I'm just missing it in your post. If they worked before and now don't, you might have a bad PCI-e slot maybe???
 





Yes the 2 8800 GT's were the original ones that were first in SLI 2 months ago. I purchased the Geforce 250 GTS cards late July and August of this year. When I first found out that I could not enable SLI I did re-install the 2 8800's and they would not enable SLI either, which got me to thinking it as a windows issue. mousemonkey suggested that it could be a PSU issue. Maybe not enough amperage for the 2nd card to power up fully. But as I state before I am using an SLI certified 600 watt PSU, and the 2 new geforce 250 GTS cards only require 1 6 pin power connector to each card, which my PSU supplies. The 8800's required the same thing and I had no issue with running both of them at the same time. But I still my try another PSU just to cover all bases if possible. Another possiblity is that I could have a bad PCI-E slot on my mom board that the 2nd card fits into? Not sure yet though.

I am accually having the same problem, I am currently running windows 7 64bit RC, on an AMD Phenom X4 2.3Ghz, 4Gb of Kingston Hyper X, Dual 9800GT's. To start with i thought it was the PSU so i upgraded to a Thermaltake 1,000Watt Modular, yet the graphics car would not get displayed, so i got both tested and they work. I send the motherboard back as RA due to thinking it was faulty and was returned not faulty(GA-M57SLI-S4 Rev 2.0) next i tried downloading the latest nForce Chipset and Graphics drivers and there was still no difference. It doesn't show more than one card in Nvidia Control Panel, GPUZ or nTune(or even an Option to enable it).

I'm in the same spot too, upgraded to windows 7 x64 and the device manager dosen't show the second card. I can't for the life of me figure out whats up. I heard that if you uninstall the drivers and reinstall with only one card then after that plug in the second card that it might work. other than that I can only think that it has something to do with the bios not set right. All the drivers for the motherboard are up to date as well as the nivida.

Rosewill Sli 950w PSU
2x GTX 260 GPU's

Would love to know if anybody has some more luck.


Pretty sure that I'll never go with another asus board or Nivida gpu's
