i using a Palit 9500gt 512mb 128bit. yeah, it has a fan plug onto itself. i tried to overclock it:
core clock: from 450 to 529mhz
shader clock: from 1125 to 1250mhz

i cant adjust the fan speed from vtune, msi afterburner, rivatuner and evga precision. i was plannning to plug the fan on my motherboard but i was doubting coz i dont know if it will change anything and if it is safe.

my gpu temp shoots up to 80C according to furmark(i ran the test for like 20mins).

will it change the temp if i will plug the fan to my board? or i should buy myself an aftermarket gpu fan?

thanks:)

is your 9500 gt a green edition?
the clocks are way to low
also the fan needs to be plugged to the card not the mobo, or it wont work.
also i would recommend getting a after-market fan too, unless you prefer to save your money and buy a better card and psu

80 c on furmark is ok as it pushes the card to its limit it will never reach that temp level on normal use
but i am wondering why you are unable to control the fan speed... because last day you said you controlled the fan speed

and one more thing....stick to one software to overclock the card..
dont install more than one as it may result in conflict between the 2 software...(can be a reason why you cant control the fan speed)

are you sure?
my gpu fan has only 2 pins and can be controlled via software..

ohk
might depend on the cooler
or is it like reference cooler's fan speed cant be controlled manually but of custom cooler it can be?

@alhanelem: yeah i was really freakin out while i was overclockin it because i only have a stock fan. can i still make my clocks higher?

whats a psu? green edition? i dont know. the box doesn't tell if its a green edition. but it actually looks like this:

@mjsharma: on vtune: yes, i did changed it to 30%. but when i checked earlier, it was reverted to 0%. so i tried to bring it back up to 30%. i cant get over that speed and i dont know why. anyway, i applied the changes and checked the fan again, i was reverted to 0%. so i closed the vtune and i used msi afterburner, which is the one u also told on my other thread.

i can't slide the bar of the fan. it was disabled just like this:

@mousemonkey: its a 3 pin and it has 2 cabls (i think. its a red and black cable?).

@mjsharma: yeah. too bad and i was really freakin out when i was stressing my gpu. errr can i still go higher on my previous overclock? and, i shouldn't reach higher than 85C, right?

You can go as high as you like mate but at 105c the GPU will most likely cry enough and die.

so stressin my gpu until 90C @ furmark is still justifiable? there's really a big difference in the temp when it comes to furmark and playing a game. coz others was finding a way to cool their gpus when theirs was steamin @ 90C. but i don't know in their case if it was because of furmark or just because of a game.

if i add another fan on my case, will it help to cool my gpu?

furmark pushes your card to its limits...
it will never reach that temp level while gaming...
my gts 250 oc reaches 65c on furmark
but never crossed 60 while gaming..maximum i've seen is 55c and reached 60c when i did a dual display setup

dear ejcelis,

i had the same problem... i'm running a GTX 260 and after playing larger games requiring higher pc specifications, my temperatures were through the roof, some reaching 90 - 93 degrees celcius.

what i did, i got myself Riva tuner, through a friend and not sure if the program has to be purchased or not... and after playing a game i would realise how hot my graphics card was getting, especially the core of the GPU, i set my fan speed a bit higher and in 4 to 5 minutes, its back to the original start up temperature!!

the program helped me considerably, even before i got myself the GTX 260. I was running a 8800GT and temperature problems were still a problem.

Riva tuner is a desktop application that allows you to customize practically anything regarding your pc components, i use it often to cool my GPU by increasing the fan speeds.

what is does is give you the initial core temperature and ambient temperature of your GPU, allowing you to either set fixed fan speeds or automatically set the speed of your fan according to the heat of your GPU.

I highly recommend the program as it potentially saved me a lot on component replacement!

Hope this helpls a bit, and i don't think you'll have a problem with older graphics cards, this program is very versatile!

@mjsharma: yeah i've seen my gpu on the limit via furmark. but once i play the game, it didn't reached that temp. ime try to extend my oc and see the limit thru games. btw, i added another fan on my case. hope that will help lol.

@dane: can't see on how to adjust the fan speed of my gpu thru rivatuner🙁

It's under driver settings, the first icon that looks like a graphic card.
rivafantab.jpg

@mousemonkey: yup. i can't fine that tab lol. but thanks anyway for telling me where:)

ok, this is crazy. is it just me? or i was just excited? i ran my gpu on furmark with its new oc settings:

core: 570
shader: 1300
memory: 400 - 450

for the past 8 mins., it was stable on 79C. (lol did the new case fan helped? XD) so i just closed the app to end my gpu's agony.

oh and btw, i was playing AC2 and my temp was just @ 70C. is that fine?

thanks:)

Your rivatuner is a bit different than mine, but none the less, where it says Direct Control or Direct Settings, change that to fixed Speed or Fixed settings, then adjust the speed of your fan, click apply, and listen in your machine if the speed of your fan has increased!!
(You can literally hear it work more!!!)

Let me know if it works, i'm sure it will!!

@mjsharma: is it fine to max out the settings of my oc? coz i've tried to push it further. my new oc settings is:

core: 585(max)
shader: 1365
memory: 500

i asked my brother if there was something wrong as he plays for an hour. well he said everythings fine. lol i was just wondering if setting one(just one) of those attributes to max will kill my gpu. lol thanks for all the tip. they were all useful btw:)

@dane: yup. there was no fan tab at all. coz it cant detect my gpu fan. what's the version of your rivatuner btw? mine is 2.24 (if my memory serves me right.).

guys, is there anyway to force adjust my gpu fan? i was just wondering lol.
