Can't boot up laptop

My compaq cq60 will not boot up past the scrolling bar and microsoft corporation screen. I called compaq and they say my IOS is bad. Can I replace the hard drive and cure this? I have everything backed up on an external drive so I'm not worred about loosing anything.

I don't quite understand what part of your IOS could be bad... guess they didn't explain more. If the Input/Output System (IOS) is bad, I'm pretty sure replacing the hard drive isn't going to help.

You can try this (if you haven't already); unplug laptop, remove battery, press and hold power button for 20 seconds. Replace battery, plug in, try to boot.

You can try re-installing the operating system, should take care of this as long as you have no hardware issues. Should not need a new hard-drive for this, unless you want to make sure you don't loose any data when you re-install.

try to press f10 or f12

or

press f2 go to boot setting and select cd-rom if u are installing with cd
