Built it almost a year ago with a new IBM Deskstar HD. Now I can't boot up. It
was running fine before. I'm (was) Running Win98se., it goes to the Win98 screen
then goes black and says can't find C: drive.
I ran the rescue disk for Norton Anti Virus found nothing. Any idea's?????
Thanks for any help

First check if the IDE and power cables is attached securely to your HDD. Then try to boot up from a bootable floppy disk and simply enter "DIR C:" to see if HDD responses. If it still says can't find C: drive, then you might check if it is corrupted...

yep. ensure its pluged in firmly.
then install onto a floppy the IBM program DFT.
run DFT.

my bet is that your drive has died.

Thanks all for the info. It seems that these Deskstars are prone to failure. Oh well.
Just going by what I had read on web sites and in magazines.
I used the bootable floppy and yes, I can read the "C" drive's dir. Now what? LOL
