I am running Linux on a Vm and when I randomize my mac address I can't connect to the internet. However, when I change it back to my permanent one the internet works just fine. Why is this and how can I fix it? I have a wired connection and it says that the internet is connected during both.

Solution
I'm no expert on this and I hope someone will correct my mistakes.
I think when you turn on your modem and boot your PC, the IP & MAC addresses are assigned and do kind of a handshake.
I know you can assign various PC's on your network router to use a specific address or range of addresses.

It could be that randomizing the MAC address in the VM breaks the handshake address assignments that were set at boot up.
There may be a way to assign the VM as a node on your network that is assigned a range of address and you can randomize within those numbers.

I'm wired to the router. To your question: I'm not completely sure, but I think so.
