I cant get mem test to run so that I can even test my mem to see if it is the problem. Have burnt about 4 cd's trying to get a copy that would run. Cd wont spin up on boot. Please advise.

Solution
If you downloaded memtest's .ISO image, any burner pgm should make a bootable disk from it. Even Win's DVD burner app. But no, you can't just copy the .ISO file to a CD. A .ISO file contains the instructions for burning the CD, not exactly the pgm as a .EXE file would be.
Have you checked in BIOS to be sure that the optical drive is the first boot device?
If you don't want to go that route, tap F8 at boot and choose the optical drive to boot from. That is also (inconveniently) the safe mode key. If you get to the safe mode screen first, just choose boot to win normally and try it again before Win actually starts booting. Some boards use a different key for the boot menu. I have one that uses F5 another that uses F11.

Here's the deal--this is a new build. New MB and HD. Trying to install Win7pro 64b. Get message that windows is loading. Once the progress bar is done, goes to bsod with "PRN List Corrupt".
I have removed all cards. Using integrated vid and have Lan & audio turned off in BIOS. Have tried reseating the mem AND tried putting it in another slot. Same message.
It is one stic of Corsair 4GB. Was reading on here about MemTest and thought I would try it but cd wont spin up.
The Memtest web says it is already an image. So I have tried just copying it to a CD AND I have tried saving it as an image then burning it. It may be me not burning it the right way. I just want to get Win 7 on this HD!!

Intel MB DH55HC w/ i5 processor
Corsair XMS3 4GB Ram
Seagate 500 GB HD
Sony DVD RW (not new)

Thanks for responding so quickly!!

I dont know what pgm is AND I dont know what I'm doing wrong. I have saved it as an image and then tried copying the image. I dont know what else to do. And another thing, do I want to use a cd or a dvd to burn too? I'm using Free Easy Burner.

You keep using the phrase "copying the image". You can't copy the image. That won't produce anything but another copy of the .ISO file. You have to let Win burn the image from the .ISO file. You don't need the 3rd party burner pgm. Just dbl. click on the .ISO file and Win7/8 should open a window to allow you to burn the image to disk.

Yes, use a CD. No sense wasting money on more expensive DVDs. Any inexpensive CD/DVD reader/writer should work.

when I unzip the file it creates a folder with two files in it. One the .iso the other the readme file. When I dbl-click the .iso it opens WinZip again and displays 2 folders and 4 files. There is never an option to burn an image--just opens WinZip. Also, laptop is XP. Sooooooo, now what . . .

I've burned tons of cd's making backups before. Never had to burn an image so it was bootable. Don't have a clue. Have Free Easy Burner and Sonic. Also have something called iso to usb which was freeware.

Cd didnt work in desktop pc. Threw it in my laptop and rebooted and it worked. Let it run all night and it said it was fine, PHEW! So went into bios on desktop and it is not recognizing the dvd. Went in and replugged the connections on dvd (after all I was in there to reseat the mem) and now it sees the dvd again.

Put the cd in and rebooted and the test came up but doesnt seem to do anything. Says "Pass 0%, Test 9%" at the top right. On the bottom line it says " Pass: 0, Errors: 0". Cursor just blinks. No indication it is testing and no messages--like with my laptop. This is not running, just sits there.

I'm questioning the mem and the test. Once the test starts, its not relying on the dvd anymore, is it?
When I run the test on my laptop it updated until it finished and gave me an answer. On the desktop, it just stops with a blinking cursor and no answer at the bottom of the screen. I have tried it twice with the same results. I have nothing else to test the mem in. I dont mind buying a new stick if it is bad but I want to be sure before spending $50.
The DVD will spin the Win 7 disk up till the end of the progress bar and then gives BSOD. It does NOT make any unusual noises.
Please advise.

I never ran memtest to its completion. I always run it for one full pass on each stick individually (so I know which one is bad). After one pass, if there are no errors reported, I quit the pgm.

Correct, memtest loads itself fully into a small portion of memory. When nearing finish, it moves itself to good memory in order to test the portion it was previously in. You can remove the CD as soon as the pgm starts checking memory.

Thinking back... i seem to remember having a system that had trouble running memtest too. It's been a long time, so I don't remember much other than I had to resort to using the Memory Diagnostics Tool instead. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/diagnosing-memory-problems-on-your-computer

This test seems to have stopped at 9%. Does not give an error message. The cd worked fine in my laptop. I will explore the website you gave me and I will probably buy another mem stick for this pc (i have 3 empty slots!). The other option is to take the new mem stick to a computer store (25 miles away) and have them test it. But with driving time and what they may charge, I could prob just buy another stic.
I have never lost a mem stic before and certainly not a brand new stic!! Thanks.
