Cant pick a very fast high end cpu

I need some options between Intel and AMD cpu's high end for gaming and web surfing. I want the best cpu that I can buy but I cant decide what one to get 8 core or 12 core by AMD Threadripper because the cache is very high and the speed is also high and can overclock small amount and I can also go Xeon cpu if it can take games online, I am leaning towards the 12 core cpu because the cache is very high with 32 mb cache and the speed is 3.5 so tell what you think of this cpu I am not going for 16 cores as I dont need more cores.

I wont be getting ThreadRipper because of the power consumption is too high, I wont be getting the best high core cpu because the Cache is too high, so I will be searching for a very fast cpu with lower Cache like i7 7740X series it could be the only option I got all the rest is too high and slower.

Thank you for your help.

This is what I am thinking of getting https://www.mwave.com.au/product/intel-core-i3-7350k-dual-core-lga-1151-42-ghz-unlocked-cpu-processor-ac00181

If you're just gaming and web surfing, you don't need to look at high end CPUs like Threadripper, Xeons or Core i9s. Those CPUs are geared more towards workstation tasks that benefit from lots of cores and threads. If you're only going to be gaming and web browsing, then the i7 8700k with 6 cores and 12 threads is the best CPU currently available, offering the best per core performance while also offering a decent number of cores that games might actually utilize. Cheaper options like the Core i5 8600k or 8400 or the Ryzen 5 1600 are also good options if you want to save some money while losing a little bit of performance compared to the 8700k.

Threadripper costs several hundreds extra for the CPU, and then hundreds extra on the motherboard, and, yet performs about like a 7600K... when underclocked. For gaming and web-surfing, it's a 'Mega-Fail', IMO.....

The 'go-to' 'good perfomrance/moderate budget' gaming solution right now seems to be an 8600K with a nice cooler; even the 8400 does quite well at turbo speeds.

If you can afford the 8700K, no one has yet died from having an extra 6 hyperthreads...and a few hundred extra MHz stock /turbo freqs as well...

Help me choose, Intel Core X i9-7980XE 18 Cores LGA 2066 2.60Ghz CPU Unlocked Processor, or Intel Xeon E5-2697v4 LGA2011-3 2.3GHz CPU Processor and or AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X 16-Core Socket TR4 3.4GHz Unlocked CPU Processor?

Ok, I understand these processors are only for databases and workloads, it is very hard to find the right cpu, please help me I want the fastest as possible and overclockable I am saving up some money to buy the new desktop because I really find that laptops are too slow for gaming, please put me in the right direction?

All the answers so far are pointing you in the right direction. Those CPU's you want are actually slower in gaming than the ones mentioned by others. When you get past 8 cores clock speeds tend to drop which means slower gaming performance which is why nobody on this forum would buy a workstation chip for gaming only. More cores does not equal faster gaming it means faster workstation tasks that require high core counts. Honestly you're just wasting your money by getting those CPU's for web browsing and gaming. If you want the fastest get an AMD 1800x or Intel 8700k.

You've already gotten good answers: a Coffee Lake i7 or a Ryzen 7. You're linking workstation CPUs which do nothing for gaming. While there are occasionally Xeons that are good gaming purchases, that's when individual ones are priced competitively with i5/i7 CPUs. Certainly not the Xeons bordering on $3,000. You'll actually get *worse* gaming performance overall with high-core, lower-speed workstation CPUs.

This is a bit like asking whether a Ferrari or a Lamborghini is better for hauling old furniture to the local dump. Neither, you want a truck for this purpose, not a $250,000 sports car.

LOL. Are you trolling or just plain ignorant. Like people have given you multiple good answers and advice but you are just ignoring them and it seems like you know what you want already. Just looks at benchmarks for your choice good grief

So what your saying is my choices was a bad pick for gaming, so high cores does nothing so am I looking at AMD Ryzen 7 like an 8 core cpu AMD 1800X and get a very fast graphics card either from AMD or Nvidia thank you for your reply.

Yup. Stay away from workstation CPUs if you're not doing a professional level of that type of workload on your PC. An 8700k outperforms both the i9-7980XE and the 1950x in gaming. A tradeoff of more cores for lower clockspeed (7980XE) or lower clockspeed and fewer instructions per cycle (1950x) is good when you're doing professional level, mission-critical things like high-end professional video editing or mathematical simulations. The tradeoff is not good for games.

Cool thank you for your help, this will save me heaps of money, I'll keep searching for the right cpu for gaming either AMD or Intel with lower cores and higher clock speeds and put most of the money towards a good graphics cards like Titan V.

...here we go again.

What resolution screen are you hoping to game on? A 1080ti is fine for 4k. Anything less, a GTX 1070/ti will suffice.

check this out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLX239KwZyc i7 8700K wins. Looks like Intel has got it again.

That's basically what everyone told you, yeah. 6 fast cores/12T is plenty for gaming. The higher IPC of Intel chips will usually net you higher FPS in games (if that matters - most people target 60 FPS, and either will do that easily).

If you're streaming while gaming, the 8700k and Ryzen 1700/1800x are on more equal playing fields at that point.

tldr; Buy an 8700k and 1080ti.

As has already been said multiple times in this thread, it's very simple, for the absolute best gaming performance money can buy right now you want an 8700k overclocked as much as possible paired with a Titan V. However! The Titan V is retardedly expensive, and a 1080ti is the best GPU to buy unless you really want to drive 3440x1440@144Hz+ or 4k@120Hz+ (when those monitors are actually released).

Get it bought and enjoy gaming at the top end :D !

They'll probably have a 10-series chip in 2019, why not wait for that?

Obviously if you don't want to buy yet then don't, but you'll always be waiting if you take that attitude. The 9700k will be ~10% faster than the 8700k as usual so it's not worth waiting in my opinion. You could be using the best possible machine for months before the 9700k comes out if you bought now, & when the 9700k does come out it'll be virtually no difference to what you've got.

Get yourself an i7 8700k
Get yourself an NZXT x62 water loop
Get yourself a gtx 1080 ti or titan xp

DO NOT get a titan V. Instead of spending $3000 usd on an ugly workstation card spend your money on new generations of enthusiast level hardware. I could build an entire PC, buy an appropriate monitor, and get myself nice peripherals for what you want to spend on a video card...and my stuff would perform better.

Flogging a dead thread here, but let's just sum up:

Fact 1: the 8700k is the fastest gaming CPU on the planet in February 2018, with no exceptions.

Fact 2: different architecture cache layouts cannot be compared directly based solely on the size at each level, it is an apples to oranges comparison.

Fact 3: a 1080ti is the best value at the top end for gaming. A Titan XP is very slightly faster, but costs way more, & a Titan V is slightly faster again, but at triple (or more) of the cost.

Best gaming rig = 8700k@5GHz, 1080ti, 16GB 3200MHz RAM, nice big M.2 NVMe SSD
