Can't turn off my Windows XP

I can't turn off and restart my laptop. Help me please!!!

You mean the screen is frozen? If you hold the power button in for more than three seconds it should force a hard power off. Then you can turn the laptop back on.

I had this problem last year... but I was waiting 2-3 days and screen fixed.. now it is ok

Best answer I found in google. It was "You may want to access the Task Manager, by Right Clicking on the Status Bar on the bottom of your screen.Then Left Click on the Task Manager. Click on "Applications", highlight -all- the active items listed, and click "End Task". Wait for the process to finish, and click "End Task" on any warning windows that come up. When the Applications section is empty, click on EXIT. You can then proceed with Shut-Down".

if always going to the task manager will be quite a problem right? can it be any virus or anything happening at hte background?
