I have a $300 router and cat6 Ethernet cord. My location is decent not the best but certainly should be able to get over 3 mbs. That's what I currently get or more specifically 2.9 mbs/sec and it stays there. I think it could definitely go faster because it just stays there and the router is so powerful so I'm wondering if there is a cap that I have that I can remove. Anyone please help.

Unfortunately new cables can be faulty - manufacturers tend to include the cheapest cable possible.

And many store/online bought products are not much better.

Try a known working cable. Or put the "new" cable on another computer to see if the problem follows the cable.
What make and model router? Who manages the router's configuration - i.e., who is the administrator?

Try another known working Ethernet cable. Cat 5e should be enough.

Check your wired adapter configuration: E.g., Speed and duplex settings.

If you do not have IPv6, uncheck IPv6.
