Question Capture Card problem

Hi, so i'm trying to record gameplay using a 2 pc's setup (one laptop and one desktop) I play on the desktop one. I use displayport output to connect to my gaming monitor and from an HDMI output to send the signal to the capture card (AverMedia live gamer mini) then connect the capture card via USB to the laptop, the problem is I get no signal at all but If I do it the other way (Laptop's HDMI output to the AverMedia then the AverMedia to the desktop pc via USB I can see the laptop's screen on the desktop with no problems, what am I missing? thanks.

connect From PC to avermedia in with hdmi, and connect avermedia out to monitor with hdmi..

Your output from the desktop's GPU should be in the capture card's input, then the output from the capture cards should go to the display, per your user manual(or rather a datasheet in their case).

But I play using displayport to the monitor, so there's no way around this? I was hopping I could send both signals simultaneously one via displayport to the monitor and one via HDMI to the avermedia, I guess I cant :/

Does the avermedia card show up in display settings as a second monitor? If so mirror the gaming monitor (#1) to the avermedia (#2)

It doesn't show up, I think I need an elgato to do what I want because It works on this guy's setup
