can someone help me i was woundering what is the difference between cat5 and cat5e.i know that cat5 is 100mhz and cat5e is 350 mhz.which one is right for me does your download speed make a dif. like 1.5 meg vs 3.5meg.alos if you could give an example of an appilaction where cat5e would be used.thx in advance

cat5e like cat6 can do 1000, cat 5 is just 100. You wont notice any difference if your using 100mbs network. You may notice a diff between cat6 and cat5e if doing gigabit.
cat5e is just a higher quality cable but not necessarily better.

Cat 5 will be enough for most current network. Cat5 cable works fine on my Gigabit network. Using Cat 5e will not improve your internet connecion. If Price for CAT 5 and CAT 5e is about the same I would just get CAT 5e just to make sure cable will work with future technology.

Don't forget about the elusive Cat 5E (capital E) which is a higher grade (not a standard) used mainly at college campuses for an even higher throughput. Most companies selling the cable don't tell them apart but when you get the cable, it'll either say Cat5e or Cat5E on it. I actually lucked out and spoke with a leading sales guy over at Blackbox who informed me of this.
