CDRW Light always on when cd present

I picked up an Iomega 12x10x32x this weekend and since I had no available ide connections, I got an ata100 card and have it as the master drive on the primary channel of the card...

the problem is that if there is a cd in the drive, the light stays on continously. The light will blink when reading and writing data, but once it's finished, the light stays on solid.

The drive works fine for burning in w2k, but in 98 it doesn't seem to work (dual boot system). It shows up as a cd drive, and I can hear it working, but I can't read info from it. In 2000 it works perfectly except for the light...any ideas? Thanks

Some drives (particularly CDRWs) are intended to have a light on all the time when there is a CD in the drive.

Thanks...I was hoping it was normal...but is it normal for the light to always be on when there's only one light on the drive?

When my Asus cd packed up I brought another and the light stays on all the time with it too, Ive never worried about it because it dosent seems to affect the function, I think its meant to be like that

My Yamaha CRW 6416s has 2 lights, the one is always orange when it is empty and green when there is a disk inside the other is the burning indicator.

I think the Iomega is a clone of the Plextor 12/10/32, and for the Plextor it is completely normal to have the light on when a CD is inside, I think it appears in the user's manual.
