I recently upgraded from 98SE to XP Professional with no major problems. I did an upgrade, not a format and fresh install. Now, if I insert a CD in either my DVD drive or CD writer, the drive spins up but the media is not recognised. If I click on the drive icon in My Computer, I get a message saying that the drive is empty, please insert a disc. However, if I leave the discs in the drives and reboot, the discs are recognised and I can access them as normal. I can play music by accessing the controls on the front of the DVD drive without rebooting, so I do not suspect the drives. Any suggestions, as this is driving me nuts!
