Hello,
I was wondering if it is possible to change a laptop CPU.
I saw some scrap parts on ebay the other day and i woundered if i could salvage a cpu from a motherboard.
I currently have an sus x550 LD, and it as a i5 4200u. And the CPU I looked into was the i7 4510u. I was woundering because they are both haswell processors and have about the same tdp. The only problem is if the socket is compatible ( i mean, from my knowledge it should be... but I might be wrong).
If so, what are the downsides of doing something like this ( not talking about the warranty, but rather batery life, heat output, unstability issues, etc...)

That's all for now and I kindly thank any answers that you can give. Thank you in advance.

Sorry, you cannot upgrade your laptop's CPU. All Intel "u" model CPUs like the i5-4200u are known as "BGA socket" CPUs. BGA refers to Ball Grid Array. These types of CPUs are soldered directly into the motherboard.

Both of those CPUs share the same socket, but it does you no good if they soldered into the motherboard.
