[SOLVED] Changing my DNS server in Windows 10 does nothing?

My ISP blocks several sites that I use quite frequently (reddit being one of them, yea I know it sucks). I worked around the problem on my phone using an app called Intra, setting my DNS on the phone to google's DNS. I have been trying to do the same on my PC. I tried changing it manually and using third party DNS apps but it seems to have no effect. FYI, I am using chrome on both devices and both are connected to the same wifi. I much prefer changing my DNS as opposed to using a VPN as it limits internet speed greatly. So what seems to be the problem here?

i mean go to something like this

type in the domain name and it will give you the ip associated with it. then type that ip into your browser instead of the domain name and see if it connects.

thats what DNS does. it converts a domain name into an ip address. so skip that step and just put the ip address in. if it works, great. if not, then you know they are blocking the ip and not just the domain name.

dns is not the only way they monitor and filter your traffic. in fact i'm sure if you used the ip address of redit instead of the domain name it would still get blocked.

it takes a vpn to mask the traffic as ittravels over your isp's routers and network. if they are blocking traffic at that level then only a vpn will help.

give it a shot and try a site that is blocked by it's ip and not domain name and i bet it is still blocked. if not, then you can just get to it that way.

So you're saying that the Intra app on my phone is actually a VPN? I've never thought of it that way since it enables a DNS in an instant and doesn't seem to connect to any server. And I don't experience dips in my internet speed.

What do you mean here and how can I do this?

Why would any ISP block reddit or other sites like that. Where are you from China?
Nope, but you're not far off. I am based in SE Asia and they've been blocking reddit a long time ago for having "pornographic content". It's really confusing cos other social networks have far more explicit content.
