[SOLVED] Changing PSU in a prebuilt PC

Hello,

So I have an HP Pavilion 500-538d and I was wondering If I can Change the PSU of it. Since I have a GTX 1060 and the recommended PSU for the card is 500W. I contacted HP Support and they said I cannot change the PSU. Is that true?

They are likely correct.....at least without a major major hassle. It probably has some proprietary cables or connectors that are not industry standard.

For good reason....they want you to buy another HP PC, rather than replace parts on an existing HP PC.

Your spec sheet says the following, which isn't much.


Internal 300W (100V-240V)

  • Form factor: Internal ATX
  • Total wattage: 300W
  • Nominal input voltage range: 200-240V/3A (50-60Hz)
