This one is tricky for me. Right now I have a Nvidia GPU and an intel CPU that doesn't have a integrated GPU. I'm about to take my old Nvidia GPU out and put a new AMD GPU in. Do I need to download the AMD GPU drivers BEFORE taking my PC apart? Is it bad if I download AMD GPU drivers while an Nvidia GPU is still running in the system? How does one change his GPU in this situation without messing things up?

When you boot up into Windows for the first time with your new graphics card in it will auto install some older stable drivers. From there you can do a clean install and upgrade to the newest version.

Oh cool. So it ain't that bad. At least for normal people... Now, I've got win10 and I absolutely hate when they force auto updates on you. So I've did some hacks to kill the connection to the Windows server in some aspects. Soooo, there's a good chance that this will backfire on me and the Windows won't be able to auto download anything. 😅 That's why I thought about downloading the AMD drivers while still running the Nvidia GPU. Is that a smart move or am I gonna shoot myself into the foot?

Any graphics card has a default low res mode that works without any drivers at all.

You will find it more convenient to pre download the amd drivers while you still have the full screen hi res functionality of the nvidia gpu available to you.
