Choosing Technology

Hello all,

I'm planning to buy a new computer and I'm now with a conflict.

NV4 + AMD643500 + DDR 400
Or
i925E + P4 3.4 + DDR2 667

The thing here is although AMD has a better processor it's using old memory technology. Intel has a worse, too hot one but uses newest memory.

I want to have a computer so that when longhorn comes I'll have to change as few parts as possible to get something near the mainstream at that time.

I think the memory might be a problem, since I won't be able to get DDR2 with the nv4 board. Of course, it could turn out that in the future I will have to change it anyway for dual core. Anyway, I would like to hear your opinion.

Note that the price of the systems are nearly the same. Thanks.

wpr.

DDR2 is slower than DDR1 - Shock / Horror!

DDR2 (min CAS4) has increased latencies compared to DDR1 (min CAS2)

DDR2 667 will be slower than DDR1 400, only when DDR2 reaches speeds of 800Mhz will it be better than DDR1 400.

Go with AMD

You're not going to run the 64bit version of Longhorn on that P4-3.4ghz. A KN8XP-9 with the right CPU will blister the P4. The thought of running dual 6600XT's is causing me intermittent orgasms!

How far away is Longhorn? I know someome that has one of the beta"I guess its called beta" versions of longhorn, and they have it running on a P4 notebook thats under 3.0 GB. Im not arguing with your statement, I dont undertand the technicality of software. My question is this; will the official/final release be alot different than the beta version? I suppose that it will, because I have heard more than once that it would take a updated system at the time of release to run Longhorn.

You'll see it by this time next year. JMHO
