The real issue is that _real_ Quality Assurance testing is very very expensive, and the best of the Quality Assurance folks that were in the business have retired over the last ten years.

The raft of hardware bios versions on aftermarket boards and sound issues makes a reasonably bug free pc game next to impossible, UNLESS you are willing to devote enough project time to it. And who can accomplish that these days with the rush to market every year.

the only hope of a bug free game could be on a dedicated console with known hardware characteristics, but even that is too expensive for the MBA's that control these development projects.

That's why I retired after close to 20 years in the game. I got tired of the fight.

Still with the phalanx of staffers shown in the credits of BF3, I'm not at all surprised that BF4 is bombing ( hahaha) since the Quality teams seems to have the fewest number of overall members.

To get back to the jist of this article, I assume statements made by EA execs did not have the typical disclaimer we've seen a million times regarding company performance in financial markets.

and yes, I'm still kicking myself for not buying a crapload of apple when it was at $30, but at the time, I was knee deep an apple quality issues and was worried. Luckily my 401 had plenty of it and I'm enjoying my free time these days.

May not be wise on my part to argue with you, but....

Sure, maybe Battlefield 4 is not specifically causing these issues, but you're complaining about Windows 8.1 on an article about Battlefield 4.

Thing is...If your PC is crashing every hour, and it's not Battlefield 4, there is a hardware fault, or you have done something to the system to cause these issues to occur. No, Windows 8 on a technical stand point is not garbage, it's a really good stable product; of course people will encounter some issues though like any operating system.

You came onto this article to complain about Windows 8.1 encountering severe issues which is in no way relevant to the article. Windows 8.1 is not the issue exactly here, you should be asking for help on this sites forums to fix your issue instead of blaming Windows 8.1 in this article. A computer isn't a toy, treat it like a car, if there is an issue take it to a shop or look online for help like a responsible owner instead of ignoring a blatant issue.

What a joke. You want to sue a game company for "materially false statements," that increased their stock price, etc, etc? Really? What about the lies about Obamacare that Obama and his pals perpetuated before the election? Or how about the fake unemployment numbers? No, that's all ok. Let's sue the company that "lied" about a WWII video game roll out.

Running BF4 on Win 8.1. No issues thus far. I get dc'd every once in awhile on map changes. Used to be more frequent until an AMD video driver update. I am a Sr, Systems Admin at a Software company (too bad not gaming software, hah) and I approve this message. Screw the stockholders and crooked lawyers.

Getting back on topic for a moment.....

Spent an hour or so reading up on a few of the other EA misfires regarding sim city and it looks to me that the stockholders need to rally , get a new board of directors in place, nuke the current management and make all efforts to save the brand name ( if it can be saved at all).

I fought brutal hard against copy protection systems being put on floppy media back in the day and I simply laughed out loud when "Management" suggested the only way they could sell a complete font library was to put it on a so called "copy protected hard drive". A few hours later when I plopped a fully working clone of the protected disk on the presidents desk did he decide that maybe it wasn't such a good idea after all.

Perhaps we need to go back to honesty in business and hardware keys for games as there isn't a "protected dvd" that I haven't been able to crack...ok some tougher then I expected

EA is in a pretty big hole right now. No doubt somebody is scrambling and I expect their sales are going to take a huge hit in q1 2014.

Stuff like this causes companies to go under quickly under the weight of enormous overhead, even with offshore programming and animation, it's still uber pricey to publish a game like bF4

I see. If they both have i7 and Nvidia GPUs and have a 3D screen, then obviously, the only thing they have in common is their OS.

Not sure if stupid or trolling.

If, if, if...
... Then what?

So you're running a BETA driver and you're absolutely positive those are not to blame?
Sorry, but I've been around http://www.geforce.com/ and every single time a new driver is released, regardless of whether they're BETA or WHQL, there are tons of people complaining about issues like BSODs, high temperatures, random crashes during games, etc.
Their solution: revert to the last driver that didn't cause issues and wait for newer drivers to test out.

Now, let's reiterate: You're using BETA drivers, which can likely cause issues and are never recommended, and your system BSODs, yet you blame the OS?

Again: moderated for nastiness

Don't buy Sims by EA either...... Crashes, bugs, glitches. you name it and it there! Love the games but hate hate the issues.... on the phone or chat with EA every week it seems and sometimes 2-3 times a week do to graphic errors. I have a Fully updated AMD card and still the Sims game is acting all crazy! Had this issue with The Sims 3 so who knows the issues that are coming out with The Sims 4.... I'll be staying away from that one too!

this game is great and maybe this a dirty move for soem to power grab within the company i feel this best fps game right now and for a awhile if they support it this game will be legendary bfbc2 is still played now and alot i play it my gaming pc i built like you folks and wish this company luck and i will buy a console on tax and play this on that said console i know we pc gamers know its weak compared to our pcs but i also got kids who will eventually play it

I haven't bought anything from EA since 2001 when they bought Air Warrior from gamestorm and falsely promised the online community they were going to do all these improvements but in reality only bought it to buyout the competition and kill the game entirely. They are low-life scum only looking for profits and put out bug ridden junk. Nuff Said.

If you want to blame someone for all the BS that goes around these days like a lack of support for descent programmers then you need to blame the world bank. There a stockholder company too and they've been lending out free money for way too long. Its ruining this world because it causes inflation on such a scale that even fun time gaming companies are getting reaped for money from smarty pants lawyer's. Sure its the user's who are at paying the price but it seems that's the way the world bank is making it for everyone. Before the world bank we had good stuff. Now we just get overpriced junk.

GAMERS: I think most you you are missing the point to this lawsuit. It's not that the fact that the game had issues when it came out. It's due to the hype the company projected for their "fiscal 2014 financial guidance" to boost their stock market price. And then "Thanks to these positive statements, stock steadily climbed to as much as $28.13 per share, allowing senior executives to sell their stock at artificially inflated prices."
STAY ON TRACK
Maybe you should read up on the "ImClone stock trading case". To really understand the topic of this article. And although it is a based on different aspects of the law, it is generally the same thing.

I too was disappointed in my pre-order purchase (and I gave my brother a gift card so that he could join in the fun as well... lol, or perhaps crying out loud).

But the fact is that neither EA, the attorneys, or the shareholders are concerned with us. This lawsuit is about falsifying projected earnings, or at least being overly optimistic about future earnings, and especially about senior executives fooling the market into higher than deserved share prices so that the executives could sell their own shares at artificially high prices. They, sadly, aren't concerned with consumers' frustrations - only shareholders' losses. However - I'll be d*#$%#* if I ever, EVER buy shares in EA.

None at all, unfortunately. Unless someone initiates a class-action suit on behalf of the consumers (or if EA reimburses us out of the goodness of its corporate heart), we are left with the situation as it is.

That's what they get for releasing a buggy piece of shit game.

Scuse my language but I paid a lot of money for this game and didn't expect to have it crash every five friggin minutes upon install. Under the Australian Consumer Law I am within my rights to demand a full refund, I hope EA/DICE realise this.

I'm glad that someone is finally putting their foot down, squarely on EA's throat. They deserve it for pushing DICE to release the game way ahead of schedule. Two years is NOT a long enough gap between games.

This is not Call of Douchy, this is Battlefield and should be treated with the respect it deserves.

It's little wonder PCPowerplay only awarded it a 6 out of 10. With the line "slow down DICE, take a breath!" as the title.

I couldn't agree more. I sympathize with DICE... but this seems to be the status quo for EA.

Two quick side notes:
1. I'm no programmer, but I do know that there is tremendous variation in the capabilities of various users' PCs. Challenging to try to accommodate everyone. But how do you screw up CONSOLE programming so badly?!

2. Many, many people went mental when Ubisoft announced that they were pushing back the release of Watch Dogs to sometime next year. Granted, they could have made the announcement sooner to let people know before they pre-ordered. However, I am happy to wait if it means a more finished product for my $60.

Happy holidays all!

Thanks! I've had that name since the Duke Nukem 3d days in the 90s! LOL. No problem about the BSOD info. I debug BSODs just about every day.

Yup glad I dumped them after all the crap they pulled of in Bf3 .but also wish they was more control on how they sell games online if they were forced to sell in a store less copies would be sold to minors who shouldn't even have the game and keeping them afloat to screw people over.. to bad this law firm wouldn't go after them for this as well ..I was a dedicated buyer over the years and at least three copies for my household for each game I bought ...Way to go Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd LLP keep sticking it to them when you can :)

Only thing they pwn is little boys like you into buying the garbage who are to stupid to relies they are buying a game that is broken and will never be fixed ...

Mr C G, for someone who claims to know how to read so well, you're really bad at copy-pasting.

Not quite.

Considering the game just crashed my PS4, leaving me with a corrupt savegame, I'd say the game is at fault.
Is that not obvious?
Unless, of course, you're telling me the PS4 is running Windows 8 or 8.1 :sarcastic:

First of all; could you please provide us with a link that shows us anybody is being banned for criticizing Microsoft?
If Roger Rogers was banned, he had it coming. After all, you do not write racist insults on a forum where insults and racism are both forbidden. If I remember correctly, his insult involved "American", "Hamburger" and "fat" among others. Of course, his wording was a lot more offensive than that.
Secondly; The "American freedom of speech" is a mockery in and of itself.
You don't believe me? All you need to do is say: "The President should die in a fire" on Facebook or Twitter, while on American soil and... well, I'll leave it to you to find out what happens. Let me at least give you a fair warning: it's not going to be pretty.

Unfortunately, 14 minutes is by far not enough to warrant stability.
Just Cause 2 for instance, will not run on my desktop for any longer than 30 minutes until it crashes.
I also happen to have a notebook, that cannot run any game any longer than 1-2 hours, before it force-reboots due to overheating.
And before we all start discussing Windows 8 or 8.1 again; these issues surfaced on Windows 7.

In all honesty, 14 minutes is a joke.

There is nothing wrong with a company using investors its what going to make them better as long as they don't bullshit to get there help ..I bet your the type who are willing to stick up for ea with support saying how good the game is right ?well if the game is all that you guys say it is why are there are no more expansion packs being released till they fix their junk....crap I forgot its not junk its the greatest game out there another game of the year put out by EA keep supporting EA and they will keep supporting you with lies lol

So they lawyers will get rich, the shareholders will get a few cents per share dividend and the company will go broke and never produce another game. Good thing we have lawsuits. Would be better to use the money to fix the product, not pay the lawyers.
