Hello, if you can help me I'd appreciate it. Here's whats going on

Asus 87n8x-x
xp 3000
1 gb pc3200

I get a random power shut down. Computer shuts down and the led lights stay on. I then have to switch the computer off..even though its already off to get the led lights off. Then switch back on to boot again. This isnt happening very often but its definitely something I'm not used to.

When the computer boots back up it is running at half bus speed 100 mhz. I am currently runnin a prime95 torture test and monitoring temp using asus probe. The test has been running about 15 minutes now and the computer temperature is steady at 114 F.

I have no way to test to see what is happening so maybe someone can help me with a past experience. Powersupply problem ? Overheating ? Possibly bad memory ?

I assume power supply but would that cause the bios to downclock? Possibly a bad switch?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Check the revision on your motherboard. The early runs of the Nforce 2 chipset had problems running at a 400 Mhz FSB. You may need to underclock to fix the issue.

I had pretty much this same problem with a system I built a while back and it turned out I got an early revision chip and it runs like a champ if I underclock the FSB by a notch or two. Took me forever to figure it out too.

Good luck

...Edit: You did mean the A7N8x-x right? If not I'm not sure which motherboard you are referring to, sorry if this does not apply.
