no, just like AM2, Conroe is gonna need DDR2, and i recommend at least DDR 2 800 rather than 667 to get the full potential. according to some benchmarks.

There are motherboards that support Conroe and DDR1, like this one from Asrock. Intel CPUs are not tied to a particular type of memory because they don't have an integrated memory controller, like AMD chips.

it also has a agp port =/

The NDA on Core 2 Duo officially lifts at midnight tonight, THG and Anandtech both are prepped and ready to click those "upload article" buttons...

oh yeah, i forgot about those companies that actually think about others. thanks for correcting me but don't you think you would like variety rather than few DDR motherboards.

I mean most boards will be DDR2 so that means you are bound to hear good things about DDR2 boards since they are the majority. Also out of the 100s of boards with DDR2 a few of them have to work great.

For example: Picture this: "There are plenty of Socket 939 boards, and some work alot better than others, so you buy the best rated, reviewed, or featured motherboard right?" Ok so one company decides to make 1 Socket 939 board with DDR2 and you have only DDR2 memory. You only have 1 board to choose from wether it works great or not.

Well thats just my opinion. Cause I do like variety. And if others don't agree then please don't flame me for my own likes and opinions. 😛

Huh? The 865 motherboards add to that variety. Why is that a bad thing?

Dude, I wasn't flaming you. Someone upthread asked if he could use his DDR1 memory with Conroe and you told him it only supported DDR2. I simply corrected your honest mistake. If I had felt that your answer was deceptive on purpose then I would've flamed you. 😀

No RichPLS,

They are not real... They do not have them really in stock...

Conroe is going to be delayed!! 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

This is good news... Given that the premier site on the web for Comp purchases has them available (albeit only the 6800 that I can find) this is indeed a good sign for availability..

Whoa, X6800's already?? That's some price gouging!

INFO ON KENTSFIELD!

Kentsfield will be drop in compatible with Conroe on the nForce 590 SLI and nForce 570 SLI motherboards.

Also, nVidia is releasing an entire range of Core 2 Duo compatible nForce chipsets, nForce4, 550, 570, and 590...

I guess the Inquirer was right about the launch after all. There's no way in hell that the folks at Newegg would jeopardize their relationship with Intel by going against its will and releasing early. Intel's "official" launch will take place on the 27th, but the real launch is taking place right now. Newegg is gonna make a killing with all the new Intel stuff.

kukito I know what ur intentions were. its cool. but i just had to put in my 2 cents. cause its hard to choose the best 5 star performing one, when there are only 1 or 2 MBs to choose from. do u get my point?

E6400 vs. E6600 - Worth the extra $100? Im leaning towards the 6600, knowing I wont have to upgrade for a few years it worth the extra $100 imo.

I'd be careful about preordering Conroe. Just because a store lets you preorder doesn't mean they'll be getting them any sooner than anyone else. Probably just the opposite.

NO! Here in Montreal, at Microbytes ( www.microbytes.com ), they do have it at hand. I could even get one now, but I want to wait to get all my part at the same time and i don't have the amount necessary yet. But it's not the point. From what I've been told there, it won't be such a problem to get a Core2Duo by the date it released officially.

I'd be even more careful about buying Conroe from stores that have it available today. just because they're selling it, doesn't mean that it's a fully functional stepping. Besides, I saw the price that they have it for, and I'm gona need the extra buck.

False! I've purchased my last 2 computer there (2002 and 2004) and most of my upgrade parts also. NEVER had any problem with them. Only thing I'd say is: If they don't have the part at the store you go but offer to get it from another one close-by, you'd better go yourself, it'll be quicker.

For the price, remember it's canadian dollars. Do the 415$ for the E6600 is about 350US$. It isn't aso bad anymore... is it?

Also, if you read my previous post in other thread, you'll see they don't exactly scream it out loud. It's not exactly like that's the first thing you see when you get to their site. This is what has me say that I'm still not sure about widespread availability at launch. There is still 2 weeks to go, so we'll know shortly.

Respect! 😀

Funny, I live in Montreal and I work for a Computer shop, we have all the same / more distributors than MicroBytes and I have yet to see the Conroe @ the distributors. Now there's the grey Channel where you might find some a bit earlier but we did'nt spot any yet =(

You don't believe me, just go there and you'll see.

Now, don't get there with your computer shop badge, or they might not say it  . I was at the one in St-Leonard if you wanna know, facing WalMart on Langelier and Jean Talon.

Like I said, the guy I talked to said I could get one, but didn't say if they had a truck-load of them, which I doubt.

Respect!

P.S.: It's funny you get the same/"MORE"(???) distributors.

It's well worth the extra 100$. In a lot of applications (primary games and encoding), the performances delta is gonna be way more than the clock difference.

I would avoid the E6400, unless there is a great overclocking advantage and I'd want to do it.

My 2 cents.

Yeah, I see by TH post with a review and (finally) some unbiased benchmarking that the 6600 is a real deal. Performs at/better than an FX-62 in 90% of tests, while the 6400 is typically at/below FX-62. So, worth the $350 in my book.

Now, if only Newegg would get some ....

No not really, they published several reports about the date like everything else, they are like a parrot, repeating rumors and gossip they hear or are told from someone who overheard a conversation at a bar by a couple of guys who claimed to of called a corporate representative who said the CEO is doing this or that... but by printing every variable possible, odds are one story will have a similance of truth, coincidently... but they really do not know what is fact or fiction.

Alright so I'm wrong. You tend to get a bit more and more sceptikal when the end of the wait is so near. 😳

Go buy Conroe today! If you can.

A bunch of places may have it, but at what price? I need the buck, so I'll wait till the initial launch and the prices are as promissed. Besides, I'm in desperate need of a 965x. Otherwise yesterday, geting the x6800 off of newegg would have been a good idea, BTW, no longer is it up there. Must've sold out.

Does anyone know where to buy the ASUS P5B NOW?? PLZ post if available... I'm mostly interested in the reviews.

When is ATI RD600 coming?
